  • How to do Mobile Detailing under hot climate?

    Hi!
I stay in Middle East where the temp goes upto 45C and humidity levels are at 70 to 80% under these conditions how do i carry out mobile detailing and what precautions I need to take?

    Thanks,

I was just reading a report about Dubais high heat and humidity. Taught me not to complain about our humidity in Virginia. Welcome to the forum.

Tips: Find shade trees, garages. Work early in the morning. Wash and dry small areas of the car with a product like Optimum No Rinse (ONR).

Don't you guys have a ton of covered parking in Dubai? Seems like a no brainer - stay out of the sun at all costs.
Other than that, you may have a bit of difficulty removing products from the paint in that kind of humidity, but as long as you don't let them bet baked onto the surface in the sun.
If possible, work at night or in the early morning when it's the coolest.
I also recommend using a sealant or wax that's intended for use in costal areas due to the heavy salt air. Being able to say that you use a product suited for the environment that the cars reside in should be good for some extra money.
For example, in the late fall I use a super heavy duty polymer LSP from germany on my customer's cars - it's made to survive the German winter which is very similar to the New England winter. Sure, I'll use NXT or M26, but for an extra $30 I'll use a product that's made for the winter.
If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to record the event, how can you be certain that there was a tree or even a forest to begin with?

For some temporary shade, many mobile detailers here use pop up canopies. Here are a few examples. They go up and down in about 5 minutes....

Do it early in the morning or just as the sun is setting down.

Any idea what temp that is in F? Jw....work in the shade, wear sunscreen and stay hydrated. I don't have a canopy yet and I'm working in 90-95F with 110+ heat index and 80+% humidity . I am lucky since most of my clients have garages, just wish they were air conditioned! Lol

Re: How to do Mobile Detailing under hot climate?

45c is 113F, not accounting for any heat or humidity index. I did search for a heat index chart but none that I could find went as high as 80% at 45c but by my guestimate, it would be around 140 - 150 F using the heat index (as in how hot does it "feel").

I personally (as well as many of my colleges) find these charts somewhat inaccurate. I've worked outside daily for the past 26 years and in the past we were issued windchills measures as "watts per square meter of energy lost". Combining that with our experience and the actual temperature outside as well as the wind speed we could accurately judge how to dress for the weather. They have since switched to a windchill index where they only indicate how cold it feels on a given day but it's not the same and does not give us the information we need to make an accurate assessment of how to dress for the day. Still, 113F is hot enough when it's a "dry" heat.... at 80% humidity I'd be digging my own 6' deep hole, hoping I'd cool off a bit after I was dead............

So thanks, but I'll stick with our 10 months of winter and 2 months of lousy sledding......

                  Thanks a ton guys!!
The temp we experience in shade (awning type shade ) will be just around 4-5% less than ambient. I guess the only way is to start early or later in the evenings.
Ps suggest If you have a good name for my new buisness.

Keep in mind, while the ambient may only be 4-5% less, the shade will keep the direct sun off the paint surface which is more important than the ambient temperature. (understanding both are still important overall)

The ambient may still be a bit warm, which will certainly effect the performance of all products, but at least the surface temperature of the paint will be much much lower than in direct sun.

Thanks Mike! I will get back with the results.
