  • Stripping Wax

I want to strip all the wax on my truck, and put two new coats of NXT 2.0 on. I was wondering what you process was and what you used.

    Thanks

Using clay will strip the wax and prep the paint for new wax.

      Re: Stripping Wax

      Why?

But if you are going to properly prep the suface, then it is clay and a paint cleaner.

If you are just going to use Dawn or IPA on the whole car, then you really may as well just give the car a good wash and put your new coats of wax on it. Doing one of those 2 things isnt really going to completly prep the surface anyway.

If what you truly want to do is strip the wax then alcohol wipe-down or Dawn wash is your best bet. Be sure to wash with a proper wash soap after either to properly rebalance the PH for the wax (IMO its better if you do that).

Thought I remember APC could be used too, or was that Safe-Degreaser?

            Dawn works great for me.

Found it, it was Safe-Degreaser at 20:1.

I believe you can use APC+ at 64:1 to strip wax, but with the new Meguiars waxes being as tough as they are, I just don't know.

NXT is even difficult to remove from an applicator without using a strong detergent.

                  1. Wash
                  2. Clay
                  3. IPA wipedown
                  4. Spray car down with diluted degreaser
                  5. Wash again
                  6. If needed, another IPA wipedown

Everything will be off the car by then...

Hey Joel, there are many ways you can strip the wax off the car:

                    -Complete Wash using DAWN
                    -Claying
                    -Very Light Paint Cleaner
                    -Super Degreaser (20:1)

I would be too scared to use Super Degreaser on paint.
