So I took my 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham to your local Arco gas station with the car wash. I got the basic "express" wash for $5.99 yet was left with a horrible finish as there was a person behind me in the wash lot and I had to exit the wash with the car not completely dry. I got home and the water was dried up all around the body. I pulled out the detailing spray and started spraying and wiping with a microfiber towel and then decided to try out the clay bar. It worked great! I felt a huge difference and saw all the dirt and small rocks on the clay. Is wax necessary after the clay or is optional because after using the clay I simply wiped off the excess residue with a supereme shine microfiber towel and called it a day.

Re: Just used clay for the first time.
Yes wax it up. Better yet apply a coat of cleaner wax then NXT or Gold Class.
I like the sound of your car. LT1?

Re: Just used clay for the first time.
Clay removes things bonded to the paint surface. This includes dirt, and also wax.
The best thing to do would be to use either the Cleaner/Wax that came with the Clay Kit, or purchase some ColorX. Work one of those into the paint a bit, then let the wax dry and wipe off.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

And welcome to MOL.Here's a picture before I did the wash. I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference as all that was applied was only a basic wash and clay. I'll take pictures of the way it turned out tomorrow. Does it matter how long I take until I apply the wax? Because I already did the clay and I don't have any wax in the house. Also, should I wash the car first or apply the wax directly? I'll be applying the NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 by hand, can I use the even coat applicator pad if I'm doing it by hand or is that only for a buffer? Thanks!

Re: Just used clay for the first time.
If it is going to be a few days, you will probably want to wash the car again.

Using the cleaner/wax or ColorX, and topping with Nxt 2.0 would be a great detail.
Yes, you can apply the ColorX and Nxt with an Even Coat, but using one of the yellow smooth foam applicators (like the purple one you will get with the Nxt 2.0 box) might be easier for you.

Quik detail it or wash if it's too dirty. You should pick up more supreme shines. You can never have enough.

1986 Ford Bronco II - Extreme MakeoverI'm going to be using that and I'll pass by Home Depot tomorrow and pick up two Homer 5-gallon buckets. I won't be using a dolly or a grit guard but I think it should do fine. I read that the clay already cleaned off the wax but I might be going with ColorX. So I can apply both ColorX and NXT by hand using the even coat pad, what's included with NXT wax kit? Thanks for the info!

Re: Just used clay for the first time.
The Nxt box will have one of the smooth round foam applicators. They used to be called Hi-Tec Foam Applicators, but think the name was changed slightly. If you can find a box of those, that would be great.
The Even Coats will work (the older style square ones not as well), but the new rounder ones will be ok.
I would still pick the smooth foam ones, but dont let it stop you from detailing.
You'll just want to make sure you have seperate applicators for the ColorX and the Nxt. And you can hand wash them afterwards, to be reused again.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Just used clay for the first time.
Yeah, the w0004 pads are like the Hi-Tec Applicators. Those will work well.
As far as the spray wax, what you would do is apply the ColorX, then apply the Nxt 2.0. Then, after your next wash, you can use the UQW to quickly refresh the shine, and add back some protection.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

If those are problem areas for you when waxing, might want to consider taping them off before waxing. Caddy looks good!
