  • Can I put wax on recent painted surface?

I recently had a fiberglass topper (truck cap) put on my new pickup. This topper had to be ordered and was painted according to the paint codes from the truck manufacturer. I was told the paint was put on recently (after I ordered) or roughly 2 weeks ago, and that waxing is not recommended until roughly after 90 days.

I was told that Wizards makes a polish that can be used for fresh paint, but that normal waxes shouldn't be used.

Does Meguiars make anything I could use or should I just wait till the paint cures?

    Thanks

I can't say anything about Wizards, as I have never heard of them before, but Meguiars makes a terrific product for that "just painted surface".

#80 will clean and protect your fresh paint while at the same time allowing it to breathe, or out-gas as the pro's say. I used it on my freshly painted hood back in 2004, and it kept my finish from water spotting & such while allowing the paint to cure and get rock hard. My hood still looks as good as it did the day I painted it.

The thing that makes #80 so special is that it has a breathable polymer in it that protects the finish while allowing the paint to cure.

I can't say enough about this product, so do yourself a favor and a order a bottle of it today.

Don't do anything to the paint for at LEAST 30 days. Depending on the Painter, the paint, the car, etc. The range will be 30, 60, or 90 days cure time.

So after at least 30 days, you can use a VERY mild cleaner and a nice coat of NXT 2.0... Don't use Wizads?!?!

      Step 1: Wash
2 buckets, Grit Guards, Microfiber Wash Mitt, Gold Class Soap
Step 2: Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner*

Step 3 (Optional) Deep Crystal Pure Polish*

Step 4: NXT 2.0 Tech Wax*

      Step 5: Ultimate Quik Detailer
Apply with Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel

*--Apply with Foam or Microfiber Applicator, remove with Supreme Shine Microfiber Towel

Read through some Hot Topics, List O' Links, How to Articles, etc on MOL so you can keep your paint looking new and not scratching it...
