  • Swirls instilled by Scratch X 2

    Hi guys,

Loooong time! I've relocated to Canada, so I had to sell the Ranger pictured in my avatar. I just bought a 2004 Jeep Cherokee and I'm in the process of doing some cleanup on the paint.

The plan was to use a touch up kit to cover some chips in the paint and then reduce the appearance of the touch up spots (very small, less than 1mm) by using scratch X 2 to blend them in. However before I started the smoothing out process I used the X2 on some smaller scratches and in the process instilled swirls (crappy simoniz applicator pads).

What do I do to get them out? I'm letting the touch up spots set for a couple days before I blend them in. Any suggestions?

P.S. Swirl X not available in Canada.

SwirlX would be the prefered product of course.

You could also try reapplying ScratchX 2.0 with a better pad, or more gently.

I suppose something like #205, #80, etc could be applied by hand as well.

Are you finding the paint is soft?

I'm not too sure. This is the first I've used the X 2.0 and I applied the recomended 'passion' that I normaly would have with the previous formula. The scratches and stains came out easier than normal, but I'm not sure if thats because of the new formula, the softness of the paint or both.

My choices of applicators are limited here, so I'll try the X2 with a little less 'passion'.

I can see pressure points from your fingers... so I would say the paint might be on the soft side.

If you do not have any less aggressive polishes (M80, M82 for example), then I would suggest going back over the area with roughly 75% of the pressure you use last time, and more circular motions rather than hard, straight lines.

Assess the paint after 1-2 passes.

If it is lessening, continue. If nothing changes, add a little pressure. If you are adding new ones, lessen the pressure.

You should be able to finish out, you just need to find the sweet spot for that paint.

I have a 06 Grand Cherokee. New to us. When I first got it. I tried to do some spot correction. The Swirl-x, Scratch-x did not do a thing. The Ultimate compound finally took care of the problem areas.

Dudes, thanks a million for the advice. Went over the swirl marks with a little less pressure and the swirls came right out. This new formulation of scratch X is amazing. Half the effort for better results.

My original plan for blending the touch up spots in the paint didn't work out, they still stand out, but it looks better than the bare metal. Any suggestions?

Two thumbs up on this product guys!

Can't wait to try the UQW next.
