  • Cleaner Wax or ColorX

My car has been well-maintained by Meguiar's products over the years. I am sure I have swirls but since my car is silver, they don't show.

This is the way I maintain my car:

Once a year after winter: Wash-Clay-DC1-DC2-Wax-Wax
Choices of waxes are: Synthetic Sealant, Yellow Wax

    Every month: Wash-Wax-Wax or Wash-Wax
Choices of waxes: Cleaner Wax, NXT-2.0

Question: I read that ColorX is stronger than Cleaner Wax. Since my car is well-maintained, do I need ColorX or keep using Cleaner Wax?

I'm not sure if anyone can give you a direct and authoritative answer. Is there any way to know whether ColorX can benefit your paint except by trying it out?

But FWIW, which ain't nuttin', my guess is that Cleaner Wax is more than adequate for your obviously well maintained vehicle.

Check out: Mosca's article on cleaner wax.

    Keep up the good work!

I would recommend ColorX for a darker color vehicle, especially one with light to moderate oxidation. ColorX works wonders on an oxidized paint job and leaves a nice wax finish. Top it up with some UQW and you will have a dazzling finish.

This is what I read from this forum. Since my car is not dark color and does not have oxidation, ColorX is probably not for me.

An alternative for you to consider is M20 Polymer Sealant. It is stronger than Cleaner Wax but not as strong as ColorX.

Polymer Sealant is a pure wax. I have already Synthetic Sealant and Yellow Wax. I am looking for a all-in-one product like the Cleaner Wax and NXT.

When I have more time and apply a 2nd coat, I use Cleaner Wax first then Synthetic Sealant or Yellow Wax as a 2nd coat.

I like M66 Quick Detailer for machine application and ColorX or M06 Cleaner Wax by hand.

M20 Polymer Sealant is a AIO cleaner wax.

I'm afraid you are mistaken. M20 is an AIO cleaner wax. Its cleaning power lies between Cleaner Wax (consumer line) and ColorX. See Mike Phillip's ranking, from least aggressive to most aggressive:

                  • Meguiar's A12 Cleaner/Wax (Consumer Line - Maroon bottle)
                  • M20 Polymer Sealant
                  • ColorX
                  • M06 Cleaner/Wax (ColorX, M06, M66 are all very close, would put M06 and ColorX on the same par, M06 can be applied by rotary, that is the major difference)
                  • M66 Quick Detailer
                  • D151 PRC
M20 is highly regarded by Tim Lingor and Kevin Brown for its durability, shine, and ease of use--a product, in other words, you may wish to consider as for your base protective coat. You may find this thread of interest.

                    Re: Cleaner Wax or ColorX

I've used ColourX (Canadian spelling, same product) on my Dad's 2003 Malibu which had a decent finish to begin with and was very happy with the results. It's now a regular part of my detailing arsenal. I haven't tried the Cleaner Wax to compare but I don't see the point since I'm happy with the results I get from ColourX.
Anybody can make a car look good with the right products.
