  • M26 over M21?

If I apply M26 Hi-Tech wax over M21 Synthetic Sealant will it provide an additional measure of protection? Will it give additional gloss for a show car?

    Thanks for your help.

IMHO I would go polish, M26 and then M21 to seal it all in, since M21 is a sealant.

I don't know if it will give "additional" gloss, but it will darken the paint a little and will give it a slightly different look, at least so says the consensual MOL wisdom. Some prefer the shinier reflective look of M21; others prefer the softer carnauba look of M26; and often people's preferences vary depending on the color of the car. The only way you'll be able to tell which "look" you prefer is to apply a coat of M26 to one or more panels and see what you think. Here is a recent thread that addressed this question: NXT Generation Wax 2.0 vs. 26 Tech yellow wax.

Topping M21/NXT with M26 is a popular practice here on MOL.

I personally love the combo of M26 on top of M21. However you shouldn't top M26 with M21. You can top a synthetic sealant with carnauba, but not carnauba with a sealant. If you do that, it will just wear away all of the carnauba sitting on your paint.

Make sure to let the M21 sit at least 12 hours before applying M26 to ensure that the polymers have set up properly.

As Akimel said, do a test panel with M26, see if you like the look and go from there. I like that deeper and richer look of M26 rather than the more reflective shiny saran wrap look of M21.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

          I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
          Remove swirls my friends.

I think you have it backwards.

M21 would be first since it bonds to the paint.

M26 would just sit on top of the paint, and trying to put M21 (which also has minor cleaners) would probably just sit on top of the M26.

            So it's usually M21 then M26.

Edit: ^Andrew beat me to it.
