  • Meguiars Reduced Quality?

I am a long time user of Meguiars NXT and Professional line. Some of you may know me from awhile ago.

Anyways, I recently bought new bottles of Tech 2.0 wax, and got some quick detailer in my clay kit. I've been using both, and they both leave horrible streaking and horrible holograms. I have tried this on two hoods that are inside my apartment cooled to 75 degrees.

The 2.0 is really watery which wasn't like my old bottle of 2.0. It's just really bad and I might have to move on to a different wax.

The cleaner wax does a better job than the 2.0

Hey Ken, long time no see!

The consistency does not sound right. Should be like the "old" NXT. As for the streaking and such, it seems to be just like the original as well. Does it when it isn't quite dry enough. Happened to me this last time I used it too. Wiped it off with M135 the next day and all was well. I'd try getting replacements of the wax first though. Does not sound right...

It could be a bad batch of 2.0.

I have 4 bottles of NXT 2.0, all are thick and creamy.

I did have a bad batch of UC that was extremely watery, but Meguiar's sent me a new one that was thick how it's supposed to be.

Detailers clean places nobody see. Detailer see's things nobody else see. But if you ask a Detailer to see how a dress looks on a woman, they are blind.

I agree. It does not sound like the proper consistency of NXT 2.0. I think that could be your problem.

            Hi Ken,

Thanks for your post / question.

What you describe is doesn't sound like 2.0 at all. It should be rich and creamy, so something is definitely not right.

Please contact our Customer Care Center at 800-347-5700 and they will be happy to send you another bottle as well as document the concern.

We are pretty certain you will be pleased with NXT Generation 2.0...

Can you expand on what you meant about holograms? I also see you said "both," but I am not quite sure what in the clay kit could cause holograms. A little more information so we can try and diagnose the problem would be great!

Thanks, and sorry for the issues.

In regards to holograms with the clay too, did you by chance ever drop it on the ground, or somehow go over a section of your car with lots of dirt that you missed?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

                I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
                Remove swirls my friends.

Or don't forget that the clay tends to remove layers of filling agents and waxes that may have previously hid the hologram on the paint.

I was using 2.0 before I moved to Arizona. I used it on cars from BMW m3's to cheap little bangers. It was great, along with the quick detailer.

The holograms they both make are like oil spills in the rain. Those rainbow like reflections. The quick detailer does it REALLY BAD. The 2.0 makes smears and a little bit of the quick detailer reflections. The cleaner wax is fine.

What's the next step up wax? Yellow wax?

I see, your use of the word hologram differs from the traditional interpretation...which I think added to the confusion.

As for what you are describing, that is not something I have EVER heard of from either product. Maybe your paint is contaminated with something? Maybe the towels?

Did you wash the pad that came with the NXT 2.0 Wax???

Seriously, I have audited warehouses and factories overseas... these products can get very dirty in the packaging and manufacturing processes. I wouldn't be surprised that microfiber cloths, wash mitts, buff pads often get dropped on floors of Chinese factories.

                          Re: Meguiars Reduced Quality?

The "holograms" are probably just smeared wax or polish. It happens to me once in awhile when I either don't get a cleaner-polish or pure polish (M205, M80, M07) totally wiped off, or I don't let the wax dry enough and it can appear like holograms. Sometimes on really humid days it seems to take forever to dry. You may also have put on too much. I'm always trying to back off how much I apply so it doesn't smear, then apply a second thin coat.

Meguiars customer service is second to none, as well as ADS where I shop (a major supplier of Meguiars products) and they stand behind their product. You should always be satisfied with what you buy. If not, there's either a technique problem or a product inconsistency. Either way, they will work hard to make it right!

                          Did it look like this?

The next time I washed the car, it went away. I had just finished with a full DA polishing and waxing session and probably didn't get everything dried and wiped off very well, so it's very smeared. It does look a lot like holograms! I knew it wasn't holograms because if I ran my finger through it, it smeared and the residue "swirls" changed direction.

That's the problem I had yesterday when throwing a coat of NXT 2.0 on my brother's 1994 Pathfinder. It came out watery and looked kinda like mustard when you forget to shake it. I remembered this thread, shook the living hell out of that purple bottle and the product came out onto the pad like it was supposed to.
Anybody can make a car look good with the right products.
