  • Bugs removal- Tips

I need some help, Im planning a big road trip and I know that I will have bugs remains all over the front end of my truck...
My question is: Are there any pre-emptive measures that I can do to make it easier to clean the bugs off my truck?
Maybe someone can give me some tips....
    THANKS

I would clay the front of your truck and then put two coats of wax on it. This will help the bugs slide off easier when its time to clean the truck.

Pre-amptive- Get a solid coat or two of NXT 2.0 wax on the car. This will make it leaps and bounds easier to remove.

As for the process of removing them, I suggest bringing a handful of microfiber towels, a bucket, and car wash soap. Put the towels in a car wash solution and then lay them out over the car and let them sit there for a minute or two. It will re-hydrate and loosen up the bugs so they wipe away with ease.

Then wipe dry with a supreme shine towel and some Ultimate Quik Detailer for a little added protection and a lot of added shine.

A couple of good coats of wax will certainly help...Think of it as the equivalent of using Pam before using your frying pan (NO don't use it on your car)

One thing I found is that when it comes time to clean the dead buggers off, I get a good sudsy bucket of car wash going and slather it on the bug area really well. I then let it sit, while washing other parts of the car..I come back to the bug zone and keep re-applying the sudsy mix. Don't 'scrub'..just slather it on. By the time you are done washing the rest of the car, you should be able to do the bug area...by this time the sudsy mix should have done its trick and loosed the buggers up so they come right off (think of it as soaking your frying pan after 'going Cajun' on what you cooked).

If you are going on a road trip I'd make sure to put on a good coat of wax of your choice as a pre-amptive measure.

However I personally would suggest picking up some D Line Body Solvent or Gold Class bug and tar remover. You spray it on the front of the car and bugs. Let it sit for about 5 minutes (it is imperative that you wait at least 5 minutes to let it break down the bond of the bugs to your paint) Then come by with your soapy wash mitt after you have done the rest of your car and they should come right off.

This will strip the wax in the area body solvent is applied to, so you'll have to throw some more wax on it once you are done, but it is worth it!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

            I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
            Remove swirls my friends.

I would have to agree with Mark. Put two coats of wax on and you should be good. For those that are hard to get off do as Mark suggested. I have done this a few times and it works great. I have actually used that method to clean our stove and counters in our kitchen from time to time.

i doubt you'll use this method, but us import guys sometimes do this when we caravan up to car shows or meets that are a far distance away. it definitely turns heads on the freeway!

Any of you guys ever hear of using a wet dryer sheet for bug removal?

I've done it once or twice. Works great. Not sure what it does to the wax though, no scratches or anything that I've ever seen.

Here's a good thread on the removal of bugs: Bugs Bugs and more Bugs.

And yes, I have encountered the tip to use wet drier sheets, though I have never needed to employ the tip. Check out the above thread.

I drove cross-country and used this http://www.rainx.com/Products/Bug_Tar/Shield.aspx from Rain X. Worked well. Left it on for the 2 days I drove and washed it off after I arrived. Didn't harm the paint, bumper, or the headlights.

Now this sounds like cool stuff--if it works, of course.
