"Good" or "not-so-good" results using it?

I have been considering an in-line filter (sediment filter only) to remove traces of sand from my well-water. I have an in-line filter for my house faucets but my outside hydrants are not filtered.

There is an old review by Rockpick of a water filter system, I think it was an inline style one.

There are several threads on Autogeek and Autopia with comments about that unit. Some guys liked it, some felt it was too small. Try searching for 'water filter', 'water softener', etc. Lots of information out there.

I have an extreme duty water softner and a triple state filter inside my house and I wash my car from the soft water line. The demineralized water I get can even be used inside radiators. I get no water spots whatsoever and rarely had to hand dry my car after a wash.

I think they're a good idea.The problem is the cost.you would want to use it because you have hard water,so you are going to be changing the media often.That's the only downside.

I have the dual set from Autogeek, both particulate and softener. I suspect the particulate filter is a good idea to prevent scratching of the paint (I have iron particles in my water, some big ones); but the softener does, I think, very little. I can easily get water spots on the car using this, even when I put a Mr. Clean filter nozzle on in addition. So I'm still looking for a solution for this because I often have to wash the car in the sun. I have measured the water for dissolved particles and the water out of the autogeek filters is the same as my tap water. Out of the autogeek filters plus the Mr. Clean gizmo, there are practically no dissolved particles, so the water should be relatively spot free. It's not.
