    Ridiculously soft single stage paint

    I'm working on my first single-stage paint polishing, and I'm having a heck of a time with it. The paint is INSANELY soft - UC was leaving marring with a W6006 pad on a G100 set to 5. I switched pads and I'm using M83 on a W6006 and the G100 set to 4, but I'm still finding a bit of hazing/buffer trails when I bust out the worklight. They're very minor, but with the RIDS and bird etching (MAJOR DPO on this car) in the paint, I really don't want holograms too...
    I had fairly good results with M9 by hand, but that's WAY more work than I want to invest at this time (it's supposed to rain for the next few days), and it wasn't taking care of RIDS at all.

    I'm going to try M83 with the G100 set to 3, and see how that goes.
    If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to record the event, how can you be certain that there was a tree or even a forest to begin with?

    Try a cleaner/wax, like ColorX, #66.

      #66 has a fair amount of cutting ability. I would try a test spot of this. This may be the cure for your soft paint.

        You might try M80 with a polish or finish pad.

          I managed to work it out with M83. It seems that I was working the product too long. I kept the speed at 5 and only worked it for maybe 30 seconds per section. I'll be putting pictures up in the extreme makeover section shortly.

          If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to record the event, how can you be certain that there was a tree or even a forest to begin with?

            Glad to here M83 worked out for you...

            In the future try M80, M66, or just a basic consumer Cleaner Wax.

            I hate working with really soft paints, but also really hard paints

              My other car has what I believe to be a ceramiclear coat (2005 Chrysler) that was pilfered from MB's tool box. So I finally get used to working with the stupidly hard paint on my 300C, and pick up my new car last night and it's apparently painted with wax .

              I wanted to stick with a more aggressive product because there are lots of more serious defects than just swirls - there's bird etching almost all the way through the paint, RIDS, water spots...

              I went through two W6006 pads on half of the roof and the hood alone, and haven't even touched the doors or fenders...ugh.

              Pictures will be up as soon as photobucket finishes up.

                M83 may finish out LSP ready at times, but it often leaves the slightest of light marring that is easily removed with a lighter polish such as M80 or M205 (or SwirlX).

                You may need to simply do a second pass to refine the finish after the M83 to get the results you are after.

                  DC1 is working very well, but not as fast as I would like, and it's leaving deeper imperfections that M83 was removing (at the expense of marring). I'm going to try M9 again, or maybe pick up some swirl X. This is driving me nuts...M83 makes the paint look better than it was when I bought the car, but leaves imperfections that will make me neurotic every time I see them.
                  Maybe A12 cleaner wax would work? Is that somewhere between M83 and DC1?

                    Do you have M80? It is the logical step to follow M83.

                      I don't have M80, that's why I haven't tried it yet. M9 is working pretty well now that I've gotten the hang of things, but even that is still leaving just the slightest bit of marring until I make a second pass with just the weight of the machine for pressure.
