I washed Clayed Compounded and Waxed my wifes car a few weeks ago and it looked amazing. After I then washed it this past weekend and I have swirls everywhere how can hit happen just by washing the car??

Re: What causes this?
Washing is the single best/worst way to instill swirls. Even when you're careful, during the wash/dry process it is easy for this to happen.
Lets say you get some small dirt particles trapped in your wash mit or drying cloth. As you pass the mit over the paint, each pass can be inducing swirls.
That is why it is ULTRA important to use two buckets with grit guards and to thoroughly rinse your mit.----------------------------------

Re: What causes this?
3 Fitty is right, you probably instilled swirls either washing or drying.
When you wash, use 2 buckets with grit guards, 1 for soap and 1 for rinsing the wash mitt, a clean wash mitt, and wash 1 panel at a time. Wipe down that panel lightly with a soapy mitt, then rinse it in your rinse bucket, get it soapy in your soap bucket and move onto your next panel.
Make sure all the dirt is off so you don't rub any dirt into your paint when drying. Try to blot dry your car and not wipe your dedicated drying towel across the car. It's all in your washing/drying technique that causes this.
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
Remove swirls my friends.

Re: What causes this?
Hey Eddie,
I've yet to wash and dry my car. I viewed that super two bucket video in the other thread by the new lady poster earlier.
I'd be most appreciative of your recommendations on a suggested drying technique for my Miata hardtop.
I guess what I'm really asking is:
Water magnet or not and how many?
Meg's chamois or not and how many?
Can I use my 70/30 MF towels as substitutes for any of these specialty towels?
Thanks, Eddie!"If we knew what we were doing, it wouldn't be called research would it? (Albert Einstein 1879-1955)
