  • vinyl stripes and wax

Hi, I have a car with vinyl stripes on it.

what is the best way to take care for them .
( the meguiars wax bottle says you cant put them on vinyl) '

I would really like to keep my stripes as long as possible in great condition.

Limited passes. Try your best not to touch them when washing your car, once one edge begins to come up there's not too much you can do. As far as dressing them, I haven't a clue.

Smooth glossy decals/pinstripes can be waxed gently, and being extra carfeull around edges.

Textured stripes, decals, you would need to avoid.

if they are vinyl, cant you use a vinyl cleaner/conditioner on them? i have NO clue though if that would work or even be a good thing to do.

I think one of the best things you should do is to make multiple duplicates of the vinyl. This way when it goes bad you can peel it away and slap on a new one.

since vinyl is a plastic based material the best protection i would use would be armor all or a similar product. because plastic oxidizes in the sun i've found that this is the best way to keep vinyl fresh. just make sure it is on the vinyl and not on the paint.

trust me, i know about vinyl overlays. one of my sponsors sells vinyl overlays for everything from hood, roof, tail/headlight, bumper...you name it he makes it for many makes and models, and i've worked with and installed the stuff for many years now.

this is the type of vinyl used.
I just don't understand what meguiars means with vinyl.

                vinyl rooftops,
                vinyl seats.
                vinyl decals ?

                maybe all of the above.

what product is that in the meguiars product line ?

                    Re: vinyl stripes and wax

You can wax vinyl with no problems. I have never had any issues on exterior vinyl stripes. If the bottle says dont use the product on vinyl just find a wax that doesnt.

                        Re: vinyl stripes and wax

If the vinyl graphics (in this case stripes, obviously) are smooth and glossy then you can wax them just as you would the painted surfaces of the vehicle. If they are a matte finish, at all textured or otherwise not glossy then you should avoid getting wax on them. Gold Class Trim Detailer has proven to do an excellent job on matte and textured black vinyl, but it needs to be used sparingly.

Regardless of the finish, you will want to avoid machine polishing them with any sort of abrasive product.

                          Re: vinyl stripes and wax

well the stripes are smooth and are glossy.
so whats the best to use.

I have gold class trim detailer . ( I use it for my grille, T-tops, rear lights ond sometimes tires )

and I have tech wax 2.0, I use it for my paint, front window and wheels. ( makes the chrome shine more )

I also have the gold class shampoo ( used all over the car )

the all wheel cleaner ( don't like it to much, only use it on the wheels if they are really dirty )

and I have a system paint cleaner. ( red bottle, yellow lambo on front )

just want to keep my rare car in a very good shape including the stripes. ( and yes, camaro's are very rare here in belgium )

Use the Nxt 2.0, just work from inside the graphic out to the edge. Dont catch the edge and peel it up.
