  • Difference betweem DA and RB

Sorry for noob questions but have never corrected paint by machine, only hand.

    1. How do you tell a DA and a RB apart?

    2. What can a rotary do that the DA can't or vice versa?

I know you're new so I'll say go to the upper right hand portion of your screen and click the word "SEARCH." In th open field type in dual action polisher or G110 or PC7424 or rotary or Flex and you will get literally hundreds of posts.

This topic has led to locked posts, flame wars, and PM battles before so just saving you some time and hassle. And just for some personal advice..if you've never touched a machine before go with the ROB polisher and not the rotary. A G110 is much more in line with a beginner's skill level. Good luck...

A dual action (DA) polisher is rated by its OPM's (oscillations per minute). Typically DA's operate between 2500 - 6800 OPM's. DA's also spin rotationally (explaining the name "Dual Action), but at a relatively slow rate of around 500-600 RPM's designed to prevent heat buildup. DA's also have a clutch device that prevents burning through the paint if you press down too hard. The pad simply stops spinning until pressure is released.

A rotary uses direct drive rotation, identical to the spinning motion of a power drill, and is rated by its RPM's (revolutions per minute). Most rotaries have a range of 600 - 3000 RPM's. The rotary does not have the safety clutch mechanism found on the DA, so it has the potential and likelihood for paint damage in the hands of a novice or inexperienced detailer.

        Clearly Hit it Perfectly

Now is this guy Using a rotary or a DA?

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

        I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
        Remove swirls my friends.

Looks like the same arm speed with the rotary as the guy who put all those holograms in that Corolla S that I did a few weeks ago...

                so im just confirming this.

A random orbital with the handles on the sides is only good for spreading wax.

A PC like the G110 has enough power to remove pretty heavy swirling, but not wet-sanding marks?

Depending on the paint (all paints being different), a G110 may remove wet sanding marks, or it may not remove mild swirling.

If you head over to www.autogeek.com they are offering the PC7424 (which is being phased out for the PC6424-XP) and is equivalent to a G100 for $79.99 plus shipping.

nothing like wetsanding and extreme paint correction. Just enough to remove moderate swirling and to touch up my cars a little bit. Id like to get a small, non mobile little business going for a few extra bucks.
