  • A couple of newbie questions

Hi Everyone, First I want to say this forum is great and I recently "attempted" my first detailing on a 08 Accord. My routine was wash, clay, cleaner wax, NXT 2.0, and UQD. I must say the results for me were superb. Now my next problem is to get my wife not to put her coffee cup on the roof.

The questions I have seem basic:

    1. Can you re-use/clean the foam applicator pads for applying wax?
    2. How long should a bottle of wax last?

It seems like when I did both applications of wax that I hardly used any wax at all.

You can reuse the foam appilcator by simply washing and drying them. As far as the bottle of wax goes, that is good you use very little. On average, a 16 ounce bottle should do approx 8 mid size cars. The key there is thin, uniform coats for best success. Sounds like you are on your way to success !

You can reuse the foam pads. Just get them clean and dry before you use them again. Work a little dish soap into the pad, massage it under running water and rinse. You may have to do it a couple of times to get it clean. They won't last forever but they are good for multiple uses

Liquid wax is very easy to apply thin. It is totally normal to look at the bottle and feel you didn't use much. All you need is a thin coat for the wax to be effective. You should get good mileage out of a bottle of NXT 2.0.

I've always wondered about this: how do you clean foam applicator pads? Because wax doesn't come out easily.

To clean mine I give them a couple of sprays of shout and throw them in the wash. I use All detergent. No perfume or dyes version.

To dry, I place them on top of the dryer. Flip them over when the load of towels I am drying is about halfway done.

I tend to soak my applicators in a bucket of water and Dawn for a few hours, then rinse them out good and let them dry.

I do the same as Murr, soak in Dawn or similar dish soap. It seems to break the wax down much easier than laundry soaps. Rinse thoroughly then air dry. Sandwiching the pads between a dry towel also helps with the drying.
