  • Questions before a detail...

Tonight Im cleaning up a ladies Navigator before she trades it in. I plan on claying tonight, however I will only have it for 6 hours tonight. I have already looked @ the condition on the paint and its not too bad. Def needs to be clayed, swirls all over but not anything out of normal. She does have a few areas that need to be worked out with some M80 or even 105/205. I won't have time to apply any of them to the whole vehicle, and was wondering how many of you will simply wash/clay/wash/wax and only treat larger scratches rather than the whole vehicle. Input? Thanks!

For a trade in, most dealers wont care about a few swirls, more about the heavier scratches. There would be nothing wrong with treating the scratches, then cleaner/waxing everything.

Frankly even the claying is kind of optional for a trade in.... tell her you will clay her new car.

Try some #66 if you have some. Should clean it up farely well. I agree with Murr1525 on the claying too.

In 6 hours you should be able to make some pretty good headway with this process:
        • Wash
        • Clay just the horizontal surfaces
        • Spot treat the worst scratches with ScratchX 2.0, Ultimate Compound or similar
        • Go over entire vehicle with G110/W8207 and M66 or D151 for a good cleaning/waxing in one step

You obviously won't have a show car shine at that point, but you'll maximize your time with the vehicle and make it look better than probably 90% of those traded in.

If it's a trade in,I wouldn't bother with the swirls. The dealers would have a cheek to say anything. They normaly create half of them.

Unless the car is covered in grease and dirt inside and out, the dealer won't care at all. They only care what's going on under the hood.

I would go with a all in one. Saves time and like #151 has enough cut to remove moderate swirls. I have also had very good success with #66. Both work great.

I'd try to cut down time spent on the interior, that way you can spend a little more time on the exterior. You could do something like Color X on the exterior and top it with NXT 2.0. Don't know if that's feasible for you or if you'll have the time for that. But that's what I would suggest, anyway.

Yeah well she has leather seats that need to be attended too so im afraid that might eat up some time. I think i will speed clay, touch up on the scratches, then use some cleaner wax i have. Dress tire with ASD and hope there are not too many fries in the seats hehe. Because this will be a trade in should I worry about the engine? Im only charging her $100, but want her to get her money's worth. The thing is kinda worse than i stated, hopefully pictures will be up tonight
