  • ScratchX 2.0, SwirlX, and UC?

I am planning on removing swirls by hand on my moms Infiniti and dont really know what product to buy.

I see a lot of people on here say to start with SwirlX and if that doesnt work use UC. But what about ScratchX??

Also, how does SwirlX remove swirls if it has no abrasives?

This would be a good guide...

See this thread for information on the aggressiveness of variou products, including SwirlX, ScratchX 2.0 and Ultimate Compound. http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28407

All three of the products mentioned above have the new microabrasive technology from Meguiar's (as opposed to the older diminishing abrasive type.) Start with the least aggressive product you have and work your way up to the more aggressive products until you find something that works by hand. You will have to work the product into the paint with some patience and passion, but it is "doable." UC is particularly impressive. Good luck!

Edit: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34354 This thread has links from Mike to various other excellent articles on removing scratches and other techniques. It also shows the efficacy of Ultimate Compound.

The SwirlX does contain abrasives, but the product description is worded in a way that it was intended to make sense to people who think of abrasives as something harsh like a rubbing compound of yore that will scratch and mar the paint.

As for your question about ScratchX, it is a good question. Most jump from SwirlX to UC, but if you need just a little bit more than the ScratchX may be the better fit.

I've worked on some Infinity paint that was REALLY soft, so SwirlX might fit the bill, and if it doesn't, ScratchX is probably a good choice.

As a noobie, I had a tough time convincing myself that I could really apply pressure when using these products. Once I figured this out with the encourgement of the good people on here and my body guy, SwirlX became much more effective.

Mark, are you talking about ScratchX 1.0 or 2.0? Because according to Mike's thread, It'd be UC>ScratchX2>SwirlX>ScratchX1

            SUM UP

"That would be from most to least aggressive,
            • M105 Ultra Cut Compound
            • Ultimate Compound
            • ScratchX 2.0
            • SwirlX
            • M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
            • M205 Ultra Finishing Polish - M80 Speed Glaze (Different types of abrasives but close in cut ability)
            • ScratchX (Current Version being discontinued)"

I should have clarified, I was refering to ScratchX 2.0 since the original post put them in the order of Ultimate Compound >ScratchX 2.0 > SwirlX I assumed everyone would know I was referring to the 2.0 in the middle.

              My bad! Good catch.

                thanks everyone..

i think im going to buy some SwirlX and if that doesnt work make a quick run back to Walmart and buy ScratchX 2.0 or UC depending on how much more i think it needs.

Another misc. question...Why is a little bottle of ScratchX 2.0 more expensive than the bigger bottles of UC and SwirlX?

its more ideal for isolated scratches.

Correct. ScratchX 2.0 is intended for isolated spot fixing more so than full vehicle correction. Ultimate Compound is really mostly intended for neglected vehicle with bad oxidation for example where the entire car will need to be worked on.

All good. It gets confusing when people say ScratchX or ScratchX 2 in a thread when both are being talked about.
