  • claying/polishing/waxing 1 panel at a time...

Hey guys, I've seen people say here on MOL, if they're tight for time they might complete 1 vehicle panel at a time to ensure they can completely focus on that 1 panel to get it the level of their liking.

Can't think of search terms to use to see if there's a write-up on this. Maybe somebody knows of a thread that gives some explanation?

I get the concept of doing 1 panel if you only have a few hours to dedicate to it but if a few days go by and you want to continue on to a 2nd panel, myself personally, I would wash the whole car again and then start with claying the 2nd panel and then proceed with the next step, etc. That sound logical?

Any other tips anybody might want to share about not doing a full exterior detail in one day?

It depends on if your driving it in between. Say you weren't going to drive the car in between each panel and it just stays in your garage. You could then just quick detail the area your going to work on next each time.

If you do drive it, just look and see what you think would be best to do. If the car is really dirty and dusty then wash either that panel or the entire car. If its just a little dusty then just quick detail it.

    Use your best judgement.

I think you got the right idea with re washing, or as Ryan said, just doing a QD on the other panels..once you get the process down pat though, you will have it all done in a day..might be 11 hours..but it will all be done in a day..GL sir!
      Fergy-

You're only as good as your last detail

        Thanks Ryan,

My car's a daily driver and it's rarely parked for more than 1 day so there'll be dust and pollen on it a few hours after it being wash. The paint surface is NOT slick in any way because there's no wax or anything on it so any contaminents stick to the surface right away.

Yeah, maybe I wouldn't need to wash the WHOLE car when I move on to the 2nd panel a few days after the first panel being done. I'll use my best judgement as you said.

Wish I could be completely left alone by the world for a weekend so I could be in peace to do my WHOLE car at once and not be interrupted. That would be ideal!

Yeah this will be my first ever "polishing" with a G110 so I'm really excited! True though that I should get quicker as I become more comfortable and acquire a bigger library of techniques etc.

I should try setting my alarm to wake up at like 4 a.m. or something or as soon as the sun provides enough light to work hahah.

I always use some Last Touch spray detailer to clean each panel as I work. That includes if I am in a garage and just finished washing the vehicle. I don't like taking chances of dust or dirt wreaking havoc.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I have all the things I need to really make my vehicle shine, except one whole rainless day to do it. ONR really helps me out here. A gallon or two of water and a bit of ONR in a bucket is all I need to wash a panel or two when I find time. Follow it up with a quick claying and it's Flex time! Washing just the panel or panels I'm going to be working on saves a bit of time over washing the whole vehicle and I don't have to worry about contamination while polishing. After polishing it's a quick layer of NXT 2.0 and done for the day.
