I have a 2008 black Escalade which I just aquired. I got an incredible deal but I knew there were challenges with the paint. I just didn't know HOW BAD it was.
I have owned many black cars, I've battled scratches, swirl marks and holograms with Meguiar's products and usually come out victorious until now. To try and fix my new ride I have read thru many of the threads on this forum, taken the suggestions with no success. Please help!
This Escalade spent the first 10,000 miles of it's life as a luxury rental and it must of been run thru a cheap carwash a few hundred times. Both sides of the SUV are covered in clear coat scratches that run along both sides. The dealership I bought the car from had a detailer who did nothing but put holograms all over the car. Those are gone now but the scratches remain. Here is what I tried in order and all by hand (I'm still afraid of machines on paint).
1) #6 Cleaner wax
2) Swirl X
3) Scratch X 2.0
4) Ultimate compound
The paint looks great in the dark, outside in the shade, but get the car in the sun and you see thousands of scratch marks. In moving from scratch X to ultimate compound I didn't see any improvement. What's next? Wet sand?
I will try and post some pics to give perspective.
