i just got my car painted last week ...and i have had to sand, buff, and ploish out alot of orange peel and fish eyes i have been wet sanding with 1500 grit, then buffing with ultimate compound using a wool pad on my drill, then polishing using swilr remover #9 using a foam pad on my drill ....its coming out really nice but just wondering if there is something i should be doing different? i have a hard time getting some small areas of scratches out using the ultimate compound ... what else can i do to remove them? i have burned through the clear in 2 very small areas is there any product that can disguise that ? thanks

Re: just got my car painted
well this is a budget project and i can't afford a professional ...it almost done to my liking because it looked terrible before ....really all i have left to do is a little more sanding on 2 panels and buff and polish those panels ....if i have the burned through areas resprayed with clear can it be buffed to match(its just one spot smaller than a quarter and an edge about 4") ?

Re: just got my car painted
before you start elsewhere, can't you at least get a hold of a rotary? Even if it's a cheaper model,or even on loan?
A drill is akward to work with, plus they tend to skip about.
As said earlier, you'd be better to take it to someone with experience.

Re: just got my car painted
the drill seems to be working fine ...i only halve about a quarter of the car left
this car was in terrible shape ...i did all the body work and color sanding and buffing ...while not perfect its very impressive to me being my first try ...i would take it to a professional if i could but its not an option for me and i'm enjoying the experience anyhow ....just though you guys would be able to offer me some pointers

Re: just got my car painted
I don't think anyone will be able to give you advice for using a drill?
The position is,that you cannot afford to get your car done at a bodyshop. You've already done a lot of the car and are reasonably happy, considering what tools you have available to you.
I can really only say the same,I'm glad your enjoying yourself and are having some success. You can only do what's possible.
Good Luck with the project.Put up some pics when you're done.

However, here is some food for thought. Since you are having a difficult time removing the marks with the drill, you should probably refine the sanding marks with lets say 2000 grit or even 2500 grit. This will make it much easier to remove them with your drill system...
Try a small test spot and see how it goes ??
