In the small places and windshield try wetting the compound with a quik detailer. That should speed things up.

What kind of rubbing compound were you using?

Usually the best way to take care of something like that is to "use the product to remove the product." In other words, reapply some of the rubbing compound to the areas in question and then remove.

While this be a bit inconvenient, a good, thorough washing (water, soap, wash mitt - the whole process) of the vehicle should remove the dried product pretty easily.

I agree with Mike and others, but if you only have the "dust" in a few areas, you could use a small soft brush, q-tip or toothpick to get the product out of small areas.

It may be that the pitting in the windshield is playing protector for the product, which is why it is difficult to remove.

Like others suggested, "like removes like," or a simple bath should do the trick.

If you want to try a detailer spray, in my experience Last Touch is the best product out there for removal of dried anything.
