  • Newbee. Need help on beat up car

Hey all newbee here been reading the forums for a few weeks now. I just recently have gotten back into detailing cars , used to in the late '80s. My question is... I have a 1999 toyota 4runner that is ***** (ok its white! ) and either faded or really oxidized, cause when you rub your finger across it you get white residue on it. Does anyone know if its single stage ? or clear coat failure? and what steps to make it look better (shine?) what products to use? I do all work personal touch (by hand) are these steps ok

    1. wash
    2. clay w/ QD?
    3. ultimate compound
    4. some sort of polish? ( i think i can still find Deep Crystal #2)
    5. 2 - thin coats of Gold Class or NXT2.0
All with foam applicators and SS MF towels
Also I only use Meg products loyal for years
Any help would be great. Thanks in advance. Dave

Re: Newbee. Need help on ***** car

If you can get some pics, it would definately help.

But yes, your steps are pretty good...

    1. Wash - Gold Class, Nxt, 2 buckets, etc.
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit, maybe and extra QD bottle.
    3. Clean - You would really want to do a test spot with SwirlX, then try UC if needed. SwirlX would be the regular cleaner in the future, so it wont go to waste. You also may need to follow up the UC with SwirlX.
    4. Polish - Optional, but if it is single stage, yeah, a pure polish like DC 2 would be helpfull.
    5. Wax - Yeah, 2 thin coats of Nxt, etc.
    6. Maintain - After future washes, UQW or UQD are great.

Thanks Murr for the reply. Will try to get some pics this week. This white paint is a mess has what looks like grease stains from mechanics on the front fenders that wont just rub off. Might be normal but ive never detailed a white car.

The claying should get those markings off.
