  • Tree Sap?

Hi, I have many swirls on my black paint, and occasional OLD tree sap that has been on my paint for 4 to 5 years. It will not come off with a clay bar or extremely hot water. I wash my car 2 times a week with Meguiars carnubara wax fortified soap, and I haven't seen too much of a difference. I use microfiber towels all the time, and am cautious with my paint, I just cant get rid of this tree sap. Help? Thanks guys.

By the way, I am new, so hello!

Some kind of Bug and Tar remover would be a good thing to try.

Any chance of pics, to see how bad the spots are?

Rubbing Alcohol on tree sap takes it right off. Alternatively, try Goo Gone.
If a tree falls in the forest and there's nobody there to record the event, how can you be certain that there was a tree or even a forest to begin with?

Claying works for me,but hasn't in your case.I don't think it's a good idea to use extremely hot water.

This a thread from mark Kleis for the removal of bugs etc:

I found a good trick for removing old, dried on bugs is to re-hydrate them. I take microfiber towels soaked in wash solution (normal car wash soap and water) and then lay them flat over the car. Let it sit for a few minutes.

Then watch the bugs wipe away with zero effort. Enjoy

Aggressive clay or body solvent might work.

I am currently having same trouble with dry tree sap on my brother's car. I tried Simple green and simple green max for auto, turtle wax bug and tar (didn't do anything), goo gone, clay bar, quick detailer, and have had little to no success.

I am having some success by soaking microfiber towels in a freezer bag (room temperature)using windshield washer .

The sap here is harsh and can cover my car in 15-20 mins like a candy cake.

I suspect(though I have not checked) the active ingredient would be alcohol.
