  • Ultimate Compound

    Hi guys. I'm new here.

I bought an old Volvo, that's pretty oxidized.
I need to wax it and I have turtle wax rubbing compound (which has bad reviews) and I think I'll return it for Ultimate Compound.
Has anyone had any luck with this product?
Is it good? Do you think it would help this car:

Is it single stage paint? Pics would definately help also, but in general you would want to:

    1. Wash - Good soap like Gold Class, 2 buckets, good towels/sponges.
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
    3. Clean - You would generally want to do a test spot with SwirlX first, and see if it is strong enough, if not, then UC. However, SwirlX would also be the milder cleaner to use for regular details in the future.
    4. Polish - If it is single stage, it might be good to use a pure polish to get some more oils back into the paint.
    5. Wax - 2 thin coats of wax are best. Nxt 2.0 is pretty top of the line, but you can choose your favorite.

      Fixed the picture for ya

It looks like a great candidate for trying ScratchX 2.0 or UC. That paint is going to need some serious work with at least a DA (or a LOOONG time by hand) and some polishing pads or Terry towels if working by hand. Make sure you put it in the Extreme Makeover section when you're done, that's going to be awesome! I love old Volvos :-D

Does it run reliably? If you'd like to drive it up to southern NH (about 2 hours from most of RI) I'd LOVE to give you a hand with it. Working on history is cool stuff! Alternatively, maybe I could come down there and lend a hand. Cool car!

        Thanks!
It doesn't run yet, but it'll get going easily, I'm sure.
I have another old 122 that runs perfect, I love it.

Ok, this is what I did.
Washed it with armor all car wash. I picked up ultimate compound (last bottle), and did three coats.
        The paint came out BEAUTIFULLY!
I was so surprised, Meguiar's is really the best.
Today I plan on finishing the car, I have the doors and trunk left.
Then I'll put the cleaner wax on, and then mirror glaze.

        WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!

        Front half done:

        and before again...

        Meguiar's is amazing!!

          Fantastic work.

You might want to put on some kind of a pure polish as well, just to get more oils into the paint.

Absolutey, the pure polish will moisturize that dry paint to the max. That is quite remarkable for a consumer grade product to work that well by hand!

              Re: Ultimate Compound

x3 on the Polish. I'd say M80 would be beneficial, since it has yet more cleaners (which certainly won't hurt on an ancient finish like that) and TONS of oils for the paint.
Are you working by hand or DA?

I would give #80 a try. It has the oils to replenish the paint. It looks great with the uc.

                      Re: Ultimate Compound

I finished the compound, and I used cleaner wax on the roof, and need to apply it to the rest of the car.
I also bought glaze I will put on after.
                      I will have pictures soon!
                      Thanks guys!
