  • Gold Class Paste & UQW

Just the other day I went to the store to buy some Gold Class Paste Wax, I happened across some Quick Detailer Mist & Wipe and decided to try it. Now that I registered here on MOL my interest is peaked about Ultimate Quick Wax and UQDetailer.

As I understand it, UQW is only used after having waxed the car with another wax product, if this is so, is the Gold Class Paste a good initial wax to be using or is there another product that would be a better combination with UQW? This is for a new silver Honda Accord and a light green Mazda 6.

    Thanks.

Gold class will work well for you. You can use UQW over any wax really.

Yes, UQW is for boosting the shine/gloss of existing wax already on the vehicle. It should be used on a freshly washed car. It is not meant to be used as a light dust and fingerprint remover like Ultimate Quick Detailer.

UQW is not meant to be used as a replacement for a paste or liquid wax either.

Really good stuff though to use on the whole vehicle, paint, windows , trim etc,....

My understanding is that UQW can be applied on top of any of Meguiar's waxes; indeed, I have not heard of any wax or sealant it may not be applied on top of.

I would think it is okay on top of any wax.

Thanks Guys, I've been a Gold Class Paste Wax fan for quite some time but haven't kept up with all the new products, with this new car I didn't want to start using any products that shouldn't be used together.

            It should be fine.

I have a lot of trouble getting Gold Class paste wax on in an even, thin coat. I feel like it is really thick on the initial application site and extremely thing elsewhere. I've tried both the foam pad it comes with and terry-cloth and have run into the same problem. I absolutely love the results (unmatched shine) but it's a real PITA to apply and take off. Any tips?

Hi Calais.I've not used Paste waxes since I was a kid on my fathers car. These days I just stick with liquid waxes.

Can you actually say that you see/get a better result from using the paste as opposed to the liquid of the same product?

As far as it being thick at the start and spreading thinner.I know what you're getting at.What if you were to increase it's temp slightly before you start? By that,I don't mean sticking it the fireplace or anything like that.Maybe putting the tub on a plate over a pot of hot water, for 10/15 minutes before you start? That might make it a little easier to apply?

The only thing I can relate to with this is shoe polish.I used to heat it up a little and it is so much easier to work with.

I've always used paste and have never experimented with others so I can't really say. After using many other pastes I found Gold Class and was pleased enough that I haven't bother looking at any other wax products. The detailing mists and quick waxes are new to me but I'm looking forward to giving them a try.

I know what you mean, definitely not the easiest job but I really like the results.

Grab yourself a tin of M16 or Collinite 476s paste wax. Both of these offer superior longevity compared to the Gold Class paste. You can count the longevity of Collinite in months, not weeks.

I am actually really happy with the shine and surface texture that Gold Class gives me. I don't really concern myself with longevity, I enjoy waxing my car.

I haven't tried the liquid Gold Class yet, though I think I may buy a bottle of NXT 2.0 liquid before I buy Gold Class liquid.

Re: Gold Class Paste & UQW

Some think there's a direct linear relationship between the difficulty of applying and removing a product and it's performance and protection.

I'm a regular attendee at Mecum, Barrett Jackson, and Hersey Pa. I've found nothing made equals NXT 2.0.

I just tried the UQW this afternoon for the first time. It merely deteriorated the original finish obtained by the NXT 2,0 done just yesterday. Tiny, tiny bit of "star-lighting effect" from the reflection of the clear overhead lamps. I had to use UQD to eliminate 'em.

I haven't tried the liquid but the paste is difficult to apply in a thin even coat. It comes off fairly easily (especially if you get it thin) and leaves an amazing shine and texture. Look at my thread "Partial Detail" and look at the kind of shine I got on my neglected 30 year old paint job (after a solid prepping of course).

I grew up on paste. Then when the liquids came out switched. Much easier to apply a thin even coat in my opinion.

But, it is also my understanding that uqw can be used over any Meguiars wax.
