  • New car smell

I love the smell of new cars and leather products. I've had my Cadillac for about a month now, the new car smell was gone after a week. I bought the Little Trees Leather and New Car Smell car fresheners - the leather did not smell like leather and the new car smell did not smell like new cars. I then tried a few more of their products and they all smelled the same - some type of synthetic sweet oder. And each tree lasted a week and a half at most... Today I used Optimum Leather Protectant and loved the smell. Anyone know anything that gives off a similar smell or a new car smell?

I asked the same thing a while back.
I like the smell too.I havn't came across any air freshner that smells like it.
I like the smell of fresh leather. So maybe if you like that, you can use your leather conditioner.

You said the smell only lasted about a week. That's not long.Does anyone smoke in the car?

So far the only thing i found that's even close to that smell is an entirely clean interior. The carpets seem to hold and release mucho odor, so i'd start there.

What would you clean the carpet with?

I bought 2 cans of California Scents, the Vanilla flavored ones, and put them in my rear passenger seat cup holders, one in each side.

I did this over 6 months ago, and to this day my car still has a hint of vanilla smell when I enter it.

Aside from that, my car naturally smells just fine from the Meguiar's products used in regular maintenance.

But since you wanted the New Car scent, I'd suggest getting one of those California Scents in that flavor and just let them sit in the cup holders.

Luckily, i have yet to need a real extractor. Just my APC+ 10:1, a foaming sprayer, upholstery brush, my 5HP vac and two filters to go with it. I like to do the initial vacuuming with the first filter. Then i spray and scrub and use the second filter to pull up the APC/dirt mixture. Pat dry with a towel and smell. I'm a weirdo, i always sniff the carpets when i'm done.

Another good thing to do(I do this once a year),is to disinfect your ventilating system.I use a product called 'GEN-ART' for this purpose.

It never occurred to me,but sometimes I hit posts about someone not being able to get rid of odors.Even after cleaning every part of the interior..What about the vent system?

Before i use the disinfectant,I remove the electric motor blower.(On my car it's easy). The amount of gunk and leaves that gets in there is unbelievable!

I think with older cars,if you disinfect the vents, then use an air freshner, the results can be better.

You'd need to check with you're dealer,if you've got air con and pollen filters about the usage of a disinfectant.

My mom has a business selling arts and crafts and such... stuff she makes by hand. One of the products she makes is air fresheners made from scent beads and scented oil. The beads are very porous and soak up the scented oil and she sticks them in little mesh bags. I use them and they last at least a month, some 2 or 3 months. I have her make up new car scent and leather scent fresheners for me and I hand them out to my friends when I detail their cars and everyone loves them so far. So if you know anyone who is into arts and crafts have them order some beads and oils!

Since car fresheners aren't big investments, I'll try out every option I can find. Thanks!
