I reckon claying will resolve this. The application is much better on a clean surface to start with.

I noticed a small scratch on the surface. Would claying take care of this, or do I need to clay and then scratchX the one spot?

You will need to ScratchX the one spot with the small scratch.

Just one more thing I want to make sure of. I'm sure I probably just misunderstood, but it sounded to me like the smudge only showed up after you wiped your finger across the paint, and as long as you didn't wipe your finger across it, it was fine?

Hi,I just answered this thread somewhere else.No matter. You've described the scratch here.

Claying only cleans the surface. It doesn't do anything for scratches.

You'll need to use scratchx2.0 on a foam applicator and wipe off right away.Just to make sure. You don't leave it on like a wax.

There are 3 products from the consumer line for scratch removal:

          Swirlx.....................Least aggressive
          Scratchx2.0.............Medium
          Ultimate Compound...Most aggressive

The rule of thumb is to start with the least aggressive and see how it works. If it hasn't worked, you try the next.

I can only get the scratchx2.0 here, but others recommend having swirlx and UC on your shelf.

What you would want to do is:

            1. Wash
            2. Clay
            3. ScratchX 2.0 the scratch.
            4. ColorX everything.
            5. Wax

Re: first time using wax...what's wrong?!

In order to remove the scratch would I be able to use a touch-up paint pen from my dealer? So I would:
              Wash
              Clay
              touch-up paint pen over scratch
              wax

Is it not better to fill in the scratch with new paint then removing more paint with scratchX to make the scratch disappear? Am I missing something?

Re: first time using wax...what's wrong?!

The only thing here is after you touch up with a paint stick, you need to leave it for at least ten days.Within that period you can't do anything with it other than leave it alone. No claying or sanding over the spot.Washing the car is okay.

How deep is the scratch? It's not down to metal,is it?

I do not believe it's down to the metal. Would that make a difference? Over the long life of the car isn't it preferable to touch up scratches with a paint stick instead of taking off more paint? I mean isn't there only so much paint you can take off with scratchX or any abrasive product until you get down to the metal yourself? I am just trying to understand the logic.

Re: first time using wax...what's wrong?!

Hi NC,that's not what I was getting at.The reason I asked about this particular scratch being down to the metal is because,if it was, you'd have to clean it 100% free of rust, before you would start touching up.But you say it's not,so that's not an issue here.

If it's a deep scratch that can't be rubbed out, then yes, you'll have to touch it up with a paint stick.Do you know how to do this okay?

I have no idea how to do this. Any suggestions? I'll keep future posts to this thread since it started here.

                      Thanks

Okay,It's just some members might oick up your threads from different points and get mixed up.

Right. You said the scratch is not down to the metal.Good.So you don't need to worry about cleaning away any rust.

Do you see a different color, like white or grey, indicating that you can see the primer?

I see grey, so I imagine that's the primer.what's the procedure? I imagine I start by washing and claying the area. Is that correct? What do I do after that?
