  • Help! CCS Pads VS. Meguiars soft buff

so i've been using my PC for a couple months and i love it but my pads are starting to wear out (currently sonus pads) and i was pretty happy with them. So i went to Napa autoparts and saw they had soft buff 2.0 pads and w64 DA backing plate so i bought them cause i've heard they are good, but when i looked at the total it was $75.00. i Thought this was a little high. So i dropped in on www.eshine.ca but he doesnt carry meguiars pads, but he had lake country ccs pads for like $12 supposed to meguiars $30.00. So should i return the meguiars pad and backing plate and get this for lesshttp://www.eshine.ca/lake_country_cu...205.php?cat=28

    Thanks in advance,

Only thing I can recommend is think about getting 5" or 5.5" pads. Using them with the PC, I feel I get much better results with the less strain from the smaller size pad..and if correcting with the PC, it does make a difference..

I think you can find all the pads you need on AutoDetailingSolutions (ADS) online for a good combination of price + shipping. Just make sure you choose all your supplies at once and get it in one large order.

+1 on AutomotiveDetailingSolutions. When you buy them in bulk (6 pads) the price averages out to $10 per pad prior to shipping. And Rick of ADS allows you to configure the bulk package to almost any combination of pads.

He's in Canada- I don't think ADS can ship there (maybe I am wrong?).

So are you saying the Meguiar's pads were $30 each, or total?

Good point on the Canada thing; I didn't realize he was from our neighborly North! That's always a dealbreaker haha...surely there have to be some Canadian online retailers .

Re: Help! CCS Pads VS. Meguiars soft buff

Nope, ADS does not ship to Canada, I have my stuff shipped to a parcel service just across the border and drive down to pick up.

There are other US online retailers that will ship across the border but eshine has some pretty good prices and free shipping if you order more than $150. Considering the exchange rate, possible brokerage charges if the item crosses the border via UPS rather than USPS and such, the slightly higher price from eshine quickly becomes a bargain if you include the free shipping and only having to pay the GST if you live outside Ontario. I do wish that eshine would carry more Megs products, perhaps they will if the demand is there.

I'm a noob in the DA polishing arena but I got the Lake Country 6.5" pads from eshine with my 7424 and they seem to work quite well for me. eshine also has the 4" LC pads which I plan to order next for those tight spots.

It's for the same cross border issue with shipping that made me choose the PC over the G110. It wasn't so much that it would cost more to ship to Canada but rather that Porter Cable has a well established service network here. *IF* I were to have a problem with my machine, I can simply drop it on the desk at the service center on my way to work where they will take care of any warranty work or maintenance after the warranty is up. The G110 would probably have to go back to Megs and that would entail shipping both ways. Not a deal breaker I guess but those shipping costs can quickly mount up as it did once in the past for me on another item.

As for the Meg vs LC pads... both are quality products and each have their following, I think you'd be happy with either brand. I've seen kits with M205 and M105 with either the LC pads or the Meg pads offered by one of the online dealers... seems it's a 6 of one or half a dozen of the other sort of thing.

And $30.00 for the soft buff pad

                  Ouch.......

I'd not hesitate to switch to LC pads from eShine at those prices. I'd get one orange cutting pad, two white polishing pads and one black finishing pad together with the backing plate and it's still only $65.45 vs one pad and a backing plate from Napa at $70. I did stop by my local Napa a few weeks ago and the two prices they quoted me on Megs shampoo and wax was well over the local selling price at Walmart/Canadian Tire and whatnot so I didn't bother with them.

                  Regards

Christian (who wishes that Megs Canada would offer the same internet sales service as the US Megs does).

Jeez, I'd be embarrassed to charge that much. Crazy.

Anyways, if you go the LC route, pick up some 4 inch pads. Very, very handy. Many pros (those who still use DAs, at least) use the 4s exclusively.

So i returned the pad and backing plate and got back my $ 76.76

And then i went on www.eshine.ca and purchsed:

For about $70 ( thats with shipping!)

                      And i got:

                      A 5 inch backing plate
                      and 3 CCS Pads!

                      And i saved $5 LOL

no offense to meguiars but here in Ontario Canada there a 'little' expensive

Re: Help! CCS Pads VS. Meguiars soft buff

I too do not use meguiars pads due to the inability to get them... at a reasonable price at least.

I placed an order with e-shine and I got

                        -4 white 6.5" CCS
                        -4 Orange 6.5" CCS
                        -3" backing plate
                        -2 white 4" pads
                        -2 orange 4" pads
-a bottle of microfiber wash/rejuvinator (just to try it)

                        All for $160 (free shipping)

And it arrived in under a week!

                        Plus, I already have

                        -5" backing plate
                        -2 5.5" Orange CCS
                        -2 6.5" White CCS
                        -2 6.5" Black CCS
                        -1 6.5" Blue CCS

That all came with My PC kit... So I'm set for a while.

The 4" are great for tought to reach areas and also for doing scatch removal!

                        Great service from E-shine too!

                          Anthony,

if you want to try the Megs pads in the future check our your local Carquest parts store. They carry Meguiar's products and I've found their prices reasonable.
