  • GC Trim Detailer ???s

Last weekend I gave my Durango a quick wash and used Gold Class Trim Detailer (the liquid version) on the mirrors and door handles. They looked really nice afterwards. The only problem is that it rained the next morning and now there are streaks on all of the doors and under the mirrors. I really don't feel that I used too much product. I used a foam paint brush to apply and went back and wiped off any excess.

Has anyone had this happen or have any suggestions on how to avoid this next time?

Plastic Trim isn't very porous, so it doesn't absorb product very well. What happens is that the trim detailer sits on the plastic to make it look good so that is why it ran in the Rain. Wipe the plastics down with a clean terry cloth once you are done applying the GC trim detailer with your foam pad. You can clean the area it ran off onto with QD or just another car wash.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

Just have to try using less. And yeah, I like to let the product sit on the plastic for 5-10 minutes before wiping.

I'm not really worried about how to get it off my car, that won't be a problem.

If this is a characteristic of this product I really don't want to use it on customer cars. I am disappointed that it didn't live up to is description on ADS:

The trim is protected so well that the "like new" appearance lasts for weeks, not days.

Alright, apply the trim detailer to the trim, wash it with car wash soap and water and dry it and you will at least have brought the plastic trim piece back to life. But it wont look freshly dressed. Or give Natural Shine a try.

After application of TD, I buff the surface with a clean MF, it takes the excess product. I've get rid of that issue in this way...

                  Re: GC Trim Detailer ???s

I believe that Trim Detailer is water-based, though I have searched from the MOL archives and cannot find a direct confirmation of this; but if it is water-based, this would explain why it sometimes runs in the rain.

                  See this recent thread:

All Season Dressing, on the other hand, is solvent-based and thus resistant to rain and moisture.

So far, I have not yet experienced streaking with GC Trim Detailer. I let it sit for several minutes and then I wipe it off. Maybe I've just been lucky.

                    Re: GC Trim Detailer ???s

Mine streaks EVERY time if it rains the next day. And I DO let it sit and then buff with a clean towel. I keep thinking that I'll just buff more next time yet it still continues to happen. I may try a different product and see if I get better results.

Perhaps those of you who say it's been problem free aren't experiencing rain the very next day?

                      Re: GC Trim Detailer ???s

I've used it other thimes where it's rained a few days later (not the next day) and haven't had any streaking, so maybe it needs a good day or so to sit and soak in.

That may well be situation in my case. I will start checking the weather reports and will avoid applying GCTD if it looks like it will be raining in the next 24 hours.

Maybe I also need to start checking weather reports and see if I can use it problem free on a non rain day. I like the way it applies and looks.

But I live in Miami and it rains all summer. I'll give it a shot in the winter when it rarely rains. I'll report back.... eventually.

Your getting the streaking because there is to much product.
Wipe down after you apply and that should solve your problem.
