  • Clay Question

how many times can you use a single clay bar? And when you use one should I fold the Clay over so the dirty part is in the middle and then work with the clean part the next time?

    Thank you,

    Jason.

    Re: Clay Question

Most people say three or four times is the life of a 50g clay bar (which I think is what comes in the smooth surface clay kit) depending on how dirty the cars you are claying are. Yes, knead it constantly and if you drop it throw it away. If you see any big pieces of dirt remove them if you can. You can never use too much quick detailer, but too little can cause you to mar the paint if the clay is rubbed on a dry surface. I am going to start cutting my clay up into three pieces after being recommended that by someone on this forum.

Thanks for the quick response... I will do as you said.

      Thanks again,

So I should take the single piece of Clay and cut it into thirds and use 1 of the 3 pieces correct? If so what size car could that piece do?

Very good points to follow. Rule of thumb: if you knead the clay bar and you cannot fold it to a clean area of the bar, then you need to throw it away.

                Re: Clay Question

I tend to cut the 2 bars in half to use.

Once they seem a bit dirty from the paint and glass, you can still use them on wheels and exhaust tips, etc

You can use clay on anything hard and smooth.

As mentioned, just dont use it on your wheels, then bring back up onto the paint.

                      Cool.

Can I go from glass to paint? or when you use it on glass it is used for glass only from that point forward?

                      Thanks man.

                        Re: Clay Question

The glass is pretty much going to have whatever the paint has on it, so you can go back and forth. Just remember you'll want a glass cleaner after.

Down in the wheels, you are going to have metal bits like break dust.

You can go from paint to glass or glass to paint whenever you clay. I always clay the glass whenever I clay the paint, using the same clay bar. You'd be surprised how much **** clings to glass as much as it does to paint.

So as a pro detailer your saying to use a piece of clay once or twice?
                              That's just not true.
You can use it over and over again, until it stops working. I do many, many, many cars with one bar.
Clay can last a long time.
                              Don't waste it, use it.
