  • M105 Issues

I was polishing a car yesterday and I started off with M105. I didn't have any problems with it until I got to the bumper area.

I used a Flex DA along with other various pads to see if I could fix the problem. When I applied the polish about maybe the third pass, it began dry up horribly. It was like it flash dried.

Ive never ran into this problem before until yesterday.
Maybe its the way I have been storing the product? Maybe to warm? The crazy thing is though, m205 did not have a problem at all. Ill try to take a picture of the polish later today. I was just wondering if anyone has this problem as well and could help me out.

Shake the bottle of 105 occasionally, make sure you are cleaning your pad on the fly fairly often. I use a couple sprays of Last Touch 1:1 and take a MF to my 105pad on speed 3 and dab and rub it probably 2-3x per panel.

And indeed, all the pain and dust one experiences with 105 is rewarded by the joy and "lubricity" of 205. It's a different formula, and it's like applying super-smooth Astroglide or something...it really is a pleasure to work with after dealing with the complete opposite (somewhat unfriendly) nature of 105 . Good luck!

        Use less product.
I only use a few drops and works great.

You know, when we were at Chris's for the midwest get together this is the issue I was bringing up to Jason Rose was the product was flashing to quickly and you could either try to remove it after a couple of passes and before it would get a little gummy, or continue to buff and it removes most of the product but that's when the dusting issue comes in, plus I'm not sure you want to dry buff the product. I still struggle some to this day with 105, but some things to try, add a little more product to your pad when it starts doing this to remove, or mist the area with 34 or water and remove. My saving grace, I most always follow 105 with 205 now and anything I didn't get wiped up on the 105 comes off with 205. 205 is the most user friendly polish i've ever used and makes the paint look great!

The weird thing is, I never had this problem before until a car on sunday. I was running low on M105, maybe it was to thick at the bottom?

                New or old formula?

Keep in mind that all paint jobs are different and not all products and techniques work on each paint. If this is an isolated incident there is the possiblity that something on the paint is causing an issue. I would wipe the paint down with a very strong solution of alcohol and try again. If that doesn't help, then it could be the paint doens't accept the polish.

At this point you can alter your technique or switch to a different product.
Let's make all of the cars shiny!

Ya know this topic is coming up alot lately,
                    Your using to much!
Use less and you won't have this problem.
You are working with 2 things here, a Pad and a chemical.
Let the pad do some of the work and stop relying on just the chemical.
Using more product will only increase your problem.
And it doesn't matter if it's the "new" or the "old".
I have both and they work the same.

                      Re: M105 Issues

I find this very common with M105. (I've tried many methods and I have never been able to get it to not behave like this)

If you try and remove at this stage it is very difficult to wipe off.

Don't worry about it and simply continue polishing.

As you continue polishing it will dust a fair amount and will appear to breakdown like a diminishing polish. Once that has occurred you can work it a long as you like. There will be little M105 left on the surface and the wipe off will be very easy.

It will work just fine, will produce great results, and will not cause any problem.
