  • Need recommendation for polishing plastic...

Hey friends, I have a question regarding what Meguiar's product would best help me to polish to a nice clean shine the plastic finish on a set of old Gretsch drums from the early to mid 1950's. I am restoring this old drumset because they are in such great condition but the finished is a little cloudy due to years of exposure to who knows what. While I'm not interested in restoring any of the color that has faded on the drums (they're a red sparkle), I would like to make them shine like glass and look as new today as they did 55 years ago. Any ideas about which product will help me achieve the shine I'm hoping to get? I've done a lot of reading and I'm hoping that one of the Meguiar's products available will accomplish my goal. Thanks for your time...

Obviously the Meguiar's products were not made with polishing drums in mind, but, that said, PlastX is a very versatile and fairly gentle polish (with hand application) that works on many polishes.

As always, we recommend using a test spot before doing large sections so you can get an idea of what the results will be.

Here is a solid thread posted by the master of detailing himself: Mike Phillips. This THREAD covers the Meguiar's plastic care products.

Hi.Are you actually meaning the drum casing itself?

Are they dirty and just need a clean?

Are you trying to remove scratches from the surface?

Are they laquered?(are they worn in any places, given the age)

Did a Google search, do they look like these?

If so, you could use light cleaner/polish like SwirlX, or plastic cleaner like PlastX and both of these will restore clarity to the finish as well as restore the shine to the surface.

          Here's what you're looking for,

And pick up some of these to apply the product.

          G12310 PlastX
