  • Detailing College

I have seen a few detail schools out there, two that caught my eye was one done by a dude named Reeny, 1 on 1 kind of stuff, and the other is done by the detail king.

Well i really want to take me and my wife to a school to learn not only the cleaning aspect of the business but how to run the business also. Is there any schools out there worth going to that offer these kind of classes for a much more fair price?

I got a 3500 quote from the Reeny person, and a 1500 quote for the 3 day training with detail king.

I am at a loss on what to do atm, i want to make sure i go to a school that is worth spending my money on so i can grow my business.

We are on the east coast btw, so something close to us would be better than CA etc.

        Re: Detailing College

Check out the "Detailing For Dollars" thread on MOL, lots of great information...you can put that $1500 towards a lot of products. You never want to start off in a hole on a business if you can avoid it.

              Re: Detailing College

$3K is mighty pricey for a day with someone who does the same thing as 75% of the people on MOL. Not saying its not worth it, but you can learn from your mistakes and be set for product for at least 6 months, maybe a year with that same investment.

There is an article by Joe (Superior Shine) that is floating around somewhere. Try to get your hands on it, very good info about the business side of detailing.

Over the years I have let people "roll with Joe" for a day or few days.

Make it out here to Cali and give me a few days and I will point you in the right direction.

One day maybe I should charge for this. Keep in mind I will put you to work. Its all about hands on, on real world vehicles and real world problems. No classroom time at all.

Hey man i would love to have me and my wife come out that way, let me look into trip cost for hotel and flight out there.

If you like send me a PM with your number and i can call you about it!

                  :-)

Also just for clarity to Cololnel Cash that reeny guy charges 3500 for 5 days 1 on one with him, not 3000 for one day. I dont want anyone getting the wrong impression of him.

                    Re: Detailing College

I am sure Rennys class is worth every penny and then some. I know him personally and have had the honor of working side by side with him.

Keep in mind rolling with me isn't a structured curriculum of lessons like I assume you will get with Renny. Rather it is a chance to go into the field, witness work being performed, opportunity to perform some of the work yourself and ask questions.

I'd say that rolling with SS would be a great addition to your training after or before attending Rennys class.

Need my Ph#, do a little research and you will find it.

                      Re: Detailing College

Many thanks to my friend Joe for the kind words!

Like many of you, I am a professional detailer, a detailer who has realized a great deal of success within my career both here in the states and abroad. I have owned and operated multiple locations and in recent years have taken nearly 100% of my aim at the higher-end clientele within the industry.

Allow me to clarify, I am not a "detailing school"; I am a detailing coach and mentor that not only understands what it takes to succeed within business but what it takes to succeed within a detailing business!

Knowing how to detail is one thing...knowing business is another and knowing how to best combine those two skills is what I take aim at with those I teach, coach and mentor! Any person can say they detail...few detail at levels that realize true profits simply due to the lack of understanding within the blending of business and detailing skills!

Something as easy as proper menu contruction to match your local market is a huge part of my teachings! You need to understand first what will sell within your local market and then how to perform and succeed within that adjustable menu system!

Clarification! The price of my training that was mentioned above is the price for a structured five-day course with me...not one day with me...five-days with me...my three day offer is much less and all of my prices include your hotel . Just to clarify the above quotation.

Joe's offer is tremendous and he is a talented detailer with decades of experience! His offer will give you a great look at the true detailing environment from an operators view which is a good view to have! Seeing how professionals work and systematize detailing is an important part of professional detailing no matter if its rolling with Joe or within a structured learning environment.

The time and experience I bring to you is from that of someone who has virtually been at every level within the industry...I know and understand the challenges of starting, launching and building a new detailing business...I understand the "rapid growth period" of a detailing business and I understand the "following the money" aspect of the business which is an elite club that few professionals realize. (there are a few of those club members here on MOL)

I attract and prefer business minded students that are looking at detailing as a true business and limit my training to about 30 students each year. This level of coaching and mentoring is clearly not for everyone!

If you are on a budget or can not travel for some reason, apprentice with a shop or take someone like Joe up on his offer...any detailing education is better then none at all! (In many cases)

I wish you the best within your detailing venture and many thanks to those at MOL for providing such a great forum for the detailing industry!

This interests me in one way.

Is there a qualification or certificate that entitles you to do this sort of work?

I ask because a lot of old school are self taught guys, but they really know their stuff...

Renny will have to speak for himself but this is what I have observed in the industry.

Guys like Renny and my self started back in the old days (are the 80s & 90s old days??) when there wasn't auto detailing schools or coaches. We learned by years of trails and errors. I have made costly mistakes and have had my nose bloodied on more than one occasion.

I started in the auto body industry and had to learn the business side of the industry. Renny already has/had a very good business sense.

Judge any school / coach you maybe interested in "by the fruit they bear."
