  • Window tints

hi everyone. I had my windows done about six years ago.Every thing was fine untill after a bit of work in the paint shop,a couple of years ago. The plastic is covered with pin head specks. I think what happened was the heat lamps bubbled the film. I wouldn't think it would be any overspray as the windshield visor is free from any defects.
I can feel the spots if i run my hand over the film.I personally don't see anyway out of this problem, unless the spots are exterior only and not on the adhesive side.Even at that, this film has got to be soft,so something like plastx,i don't think would work here.

Anyone here know much about window tinting, can give some advice?

I'm actually thinking of removing it...Is it difficult?

What plastic are you talking about?
    The actual tint?
Is the tint on the outside?
    I'm confused.
Anyways you can't use any abrasives on window tint.
Removing it isn't hard, cut up a trash bag and cut to your window size, spray the window with water and cover with the plastic. Wait 10 mins. and your tint should come off.

If I am reading it right, it is on the window (not the tint film), you may try claying. I would not rule out overspray.

As for removing it, the trick I have seen is to park the car in the sun to heat the windows up, spray the tint with ammonia (eats the glue), cover with black plastic, and let the sun bake it off. They also sell tint removal spray here in the states, not sure about over the pond.

        -Just the tint.

        The actual tint?

        -Yes.It's light smoke.

Is the tint on the outside?

        -No. Inside only.

        I'm confused.

        -Sorry for that.

-Thanks for that tip!I actually just read in another thread with the caddy owner, wanting to tint his windows, you had done a lot of tinting in the past.-So thanks for replying to this one.

From a distance it looks fine. But it bugs me so much!

Hi Roush.Sorry for the confusion guys. I was just getting so tired last night.
It's just the tint that's affected. The glass is fine.

I think i'll end up removing it. In one small corner, driver's side window. The tint peeled. What happened there was I had to change the electric window mechanism. But before I got the part,I had to close my window, and as the mechanism was broken,(it caused the window to be out of position),I had to pull it up by hand.
So that caused a little damage.
What I noticed, though was it peeled off very easily, no adhesive left.

Okay, thanks guys.sorry for the. Tinting's not my thing.(I did do my entire hut windows and some small basement windows[applying tint that is] with the cheapish mirror stuff. It turned out fine.A job of patience!)

          Water,water everywhere...

Roush,I forgot to mention to you. Do you remember you gave me a link for Alu.polish. Looks like really good stuff! It probably sounds strange for you guys, being able to get meg's alu.polish easily.

But over here,it's just not that easy(off the shelf).Any brand!

This one actually involves a bit of help in the past from you and Mario.

I posted a thread about getting water stains off my stainless header. Mario suggested SScleaner. So,I gave it another go.(I think water stains that were there from the start,my fault, are permanent??)

Anyway,I tried SS cleaner on my intake pipe(aluminium) and found it had a nice grabby, feel when rubbing. After,I went over with Meg's NXT all metal polish, and all that horrible oxidization was gone.It really worked out well. And removed a lot of scratches at the same time!

I like having that option too. I usually just head over to NAPA. They stocked up on most everything since I started going there. If they don't have or can't get something, there is a PBE shop in town. ADS for the rest.

Hi roush, you've got plenty options over there. I've never seen 'Snap-On' in Italy. Beta and Taskmaster are pretty good. Even in the states,snap-on's pretty expensive gear?
