  • Chips in paint repair

I have some small chips in the paint on the front of my van. Should I clay first, then touch up the chips (after drying for a few days) proceed with the polish step?

You can certainly clay and use a paint cleaner on the area, even a little fine sand paper as well to make sure the edges arent loose.

Then apply your touch up paint with a toothpick in little dabs. If you apply it in little amounts, and let it dry 20min or so in between, you should be able to fill the chip in pretty well.

You will want to let the paint chips sit for at least 30 days before doing any other work to them.

Check out the thread in the below link as this topic is fairly well covered...

Best thing to do is only apply small amounts of paint. Everyone wants to do the touch-up paint and make it so when they're done you can no longer see the chipped area nor the touch-up repair work and it's a lot harder than most people think.

Again, check out the threads that the link above will take you to as this topic is fairly well discussed in those threads and there's even more than that if you do a little searching.
