  • Restoring paint finish

I'm planning on restoring the paint on my blue 97 Accord this weekend. Should I use SwirlX or ScratchX on the entire car? I've used the ScratchX on an 04 Civic that didn't work that well at removing even small scratches. Is SwirlX stronger than ScratchX 2.0? Should I clay the car before or after removing the swirl marks? Do I use a soft foam applicator pad to remove the swirls? Finally, does the Deep Crystal Polish really make a big difference in making the paint pop?

ScratchX 2.0 is stronger than SwirlX..

You should clay the car right after you wash it before you attempt to polish

Deep Crystal Polish will really make the paint pop. After you polish it apply 2 coats of NXT 2.0 and your paint should look great

      Re: Restoring paint finish

Looks like all I need to get is the Deep Crystal Polish since I already have the rest of the products. The NXT 2.0 sealant lost its slipperiness after the first wash when I applied it on my 09 Accord. The paint felt like it did before I put on the NXT. It was extremely slippery before the wash so is there a way to retain that slippery feel? I have to use the Quick Detailer after each wash for that slippery feel.

hmm...did you apply 2 coats to make sure everything was covered thouroughly....

also it couldve been the way the paint was prepped beforehand..

claying and a polish do a really good job at prepping the paint for wax

If the paint has never been clayed or has been neglected you might want to prep the paint with ColorX, i heard it does a really good job prepping for wax and is really easy to apply and will also remove very minor defects

I washed, clayed, and did 2 coats of NXT 2.0 the week after I bought the car. I was surprised at how fast the NXT lost its slipperiness compared to the Gold Glass Wax.

The new abrasive technology in Ultimate Compound,ScratchX 2.0 and SwirlX is a lot more effective then the abrasive technology used in ScratchX version 1.0 formula.

You might pick up a bottle of Ultimate Compound as it will remove swirls the fastest by hand and machine.

Be sure to use a clean foam applicator pad to apply it and only work small sections at at time, about a foot squared.

Aggressiveness Order for New Consumer Products - This will surprise you!

Since we introduced these 3 new swirl and scratch removers in our Consumer Line and our new M205 Ultra Finishing Polish in our Professional line, many people have asked how aggressive these new products are as compared to some of our existing products that our forum members are already familiar with to help them understand the cleaning and/or abrading ability of these new products I've listed them in order of most aggressive to least aggressive reading from left to right.

(Apologies ahead of time if you have to horizontal scroll)

Most aggressive to least aggressive -->

That would be from most to least aggressive,
              • M105 Ultra Cut Compound
              • Ultimate Compound
              • ScratchX 2.0
              • SwirlX
              • M83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish
              • M205 Ultra Finishing Polish - M80 Speed Glaze (Different types of abrasives but close in cut ability)
              • ScratchX (Current Version being discontinued)

Water still beads off great after 2 months so I know the sealant is still doing its job.

I actually used the ScratchX 2.0 but left out the 2.0 in my original post. Do I use a soft or hard foam pad?
