  • Help! Streaks on my new hood!

I bought a brand new crimson 2009 Frontier last weekend. Yesterday I washed, clayed, polished, and waxed it under mild surface temperature conditions. It looked great when I finished.

Last night (and every night) it was parked outside while it lightly rained for a short while. This morning I found what appeared to be brownish waters spots on my hood. I figured this was just dirt from wind and rain, so I wiped my hood down with quik detailer. The detailer left streaks on the hood. Does anyone know what might have happened?

What polish and wax did you use?

There is no chance of the brown stuff streaking?

      How damp/humid is it there?

I used all Meguiars products. Gold class wash, the clay bar kit with quik detailer, pure polish, and NXT wax.

I suppose the brown stuff could have streaked. Assuming that it was just dirt, shouldn't the quik detailer be able to remove that?

Did you try wiping it down a second time with QD and a clean MF? Pics would be great.

I wiped it once. An hour later I realized I probably should have immediately given it another try. So I went back out and wiped it a couple more times with the QD and clean MF cloth. Nothing changed. Any chance I could just wash the detailer off?

Without pics it's really hard to say for sure. Have you tried QD'ing the rest of the vehicle? Any streaking there or is it just the hood that's streaking? If you want you could give it a good mitt & bucket washing and then go from there.

Sorry, don't have any pics. Other than when I used it with the clay over the entire vehicle before polishing and waxing, I haven't used the detailer anywhere else. Only have streaks on the hood. I' guess I'll try the wash and see what I get.

An earlier post that I forgot to respond to asked about humidity in the area. Humidity is around 100% right now. Would that be a factor even when the vehicle's surface is not hot?

Pics would help immensley here.It does sound like the rain carried something that left the marks, going by what you have said. I get something like that here when the rain comes across from Africa. It leaves a lot of heavy brown/red marks on the car.But they are easy to come off.

One thing you didn't mention: Is the roof the same?,being a top surface aswell. If not,I can't imagine it would be the rain.

FWIW: several months ago I asked the question about quick detailing after a rain. I know that some MOL members do this with great success; but I was advised to wash the car: Wash or Wipe after Rain?

Wash the hood with warm water. Just warm water no soap.
