  • Detail process for a daily driver

So I know the 5 steps are wash>clean/prep>polishing>waxing>maintaining so i was thinking of trying this on my car:

    1) Wash with Gold Class
    2) Clay with smooth surface clay kit
    3) Dc2 or M07 (probably M07 depending on what you guys think)
    4) Nxt 2.0 2 coats
    5) UQD and UQW

My cars paint is in great shape and has no swirls or scratches since its only 2 months old but its never been clayed so i was definitely going to do that. What process/steps do you like best to use on a daily driver? Thanks everyone.

I'm with Murr. If you've never used a cleaner now would be the time, even if it's a mild one. Other than that your plan looks great.

I would follow Murr's advice. That is a very good plan.

Thanks guys. What does colorx actually do? How does it compare to the cleaner wax that the smooth surface clay kit comes with? Is that what they recommend to use after claying? Or does colorx just do the same thing but its better?

You dont have to use the Cleaner Wax sample after claying,

ColorX is going to be a more aggresive AIO than Cleaner Wax. An All in one is going to clean, polish and protect the paint.

You could use ColorX or Cleaner Wax, your choice.

ColorX, or the regular cleaner/wax, will clean/polish/wax all in one step.

Being a daily driver, just like my car, I like the medium strength cleaner to get off the grime. And frankly, it is still fairly mild.

My problem with ColorX is that it's a wax too so it sorta skips the polishing step for those of us that like to do that individually. In that case, ColorX probably isn't for me, right?

Re: Detail process for a daily driver

Well, ColorX, Cleaner/Wax, #66, etc all contain cleaners, polishing oil, and wax. So it is not being skipped.

But, it is also not the same as using individual products for each step.

You'll notice that the swirl removal products are deicated cleaners, the top of the line polish is a pure polish, and the best waxes are dedicated waxes.

So if you want the best, you need to go to individual steps. If you want pretty darn good, ColorX and a dedicated wax after are quick and easy.

If you want to use dedicated products for each step, consider this process:

                          1) Wash with Gold Class
                          2) Clay with smooth surface clay kit
                          3) SwirlX
                          4) Dc2 or M07 (optional)
                          5) NXT 2.0 2 coats
                          6) UQD and UQW
Swirls hide in the black molecular depths, only waiting for the right time to emerge and destroy your sanity.
