  • What am I doing wrong?

I polished a Chrysler Grand Voyager 2004 for some weeks ago.

I jused yellow polishing pad (Meguiars)
And Meguiars MG80. I did get the swirls away. But when i took the car out of the garage, i saw a whole lot of holograms!

What am i doing wrong? I dont know how its gonna look like when the polish have broken down. But im starting at around 800rpm, go up to 1200-1500, and down to 800.

Maybe i most go over with the finishing pad? To get rid of the holograms?

    Thanks for answers! =)

Since you are using a rotary, it sounds as if you were going too fast over too big of an area. You should always do a test spot before the entire car, had you done that you would have seen the holograms on the car. Try doing another test spot with the same method you previously did, just in a smaller spot (about a 2x2 area) and do it slower. Let us know how it turns out, your problems are just because of your technique.

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

    I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
    Remove swirls my friends.

I didn`t do the whole car. Just 1 door. The bad thing is that the car is not longer here. So i cant start to polish on that anymore!
But you think im polish to fast? Thats why im getting holograms? Or maybe the paint is soft?

It is because you are going too fast over too big of an area. How many passes did you do? With M80 you should do somewhere around 5-6 passes. You need to do enough passes in order to break the product down completely.

I found that moving to fast can cause them, at least on the cars I have worked on. I always finish with a few passes at the slowest speed on the rotary as well as the slowness of the pass. You might also want to look at the diamond cut pads, some people say they help cut down on holograms.

Okey. I dont remember how many passes i did. Over how big area? 20cm x 20cm ? And how mush polish do i need to the area?

I think the MG80 is breaking down very fast..

And last question. Is it someone who have picture of MG80/MG83 that has broken down? I dont know exactly how it looks like.
