  • New to detailing + Black car = hopes to make car shine?

Hey guys this has probably been post billions and billions of times, but I can't seem to find the right info or the full info on the other threads. So I am sorry and apologize but I will being asking once again. This is my cry for help.

I have a 2002 Acura RSX with Nighthawk black paint. I don't think the car has ever seen a detail job in its life so I thought I might treat it, but I have no clue on how to detail the car. I know a very small amount about detailing like using a claybar to remove residue and using polish compounds, but I don't know how to do it in the certain steps. I would like to make the swirls in my paint disappear. I may be able to get a polisher but I am not certain so IF it is possible could someone tell me both the hand and polisher way to make my car look better than it does now. Procedure and products I need.

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Wash - Gold Class soap, 2 buckets, quality sponges/towels.

    2. Clay - Smooth Surface clay kit

    3. Clean - Go out and buy SwirlX and Ultimate Compound. Do a test spot with SwirlX, working it in well. See if it gives the results you want. If not, try the UC.

    4. Polish - Optional, but Deep Crystal Polish is easy to use.

    5. Wax - Nxt 2.0 is good.

    6. Wax - 2 thin coats is best.

    7. Maintain - Ultimate Quick Wax or Ultimate Quick Detailer are god dfor after future washes.

I'd agree with Murr on the paint care, those are great steps.

Go buy some Hot shine Tire Gel, Wheel Cleaner, Trim Dressing and other miscellaneous items to make your car look great too!

I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.

      I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
      Remove swirls my friends.

Black is beautiful but if you dont know what you are doing you can ruin it, i have been buffing for 17 years and black was the first color i learned on because it is the hardest to make flawless. It is good to do it yourself but somethings are just out of reach sometimes.

My car is Black Sand Pearl (has a metal flake/sparkle) in it... Not as bad as a flat black color would be, but difficult none-the-less. When I do other color vehicles it's so much more *easy* because its not nearly as tricky to work with. Good "training" color though.
