  • PC vs G110

I was wondering if anyone dislikes the right-angle handle on the Porter cable 7424? Seems like it would get in the way in tighter areas.

I am considering this buffer, and also the Meguiars G110. I like the design of the G110, being that the handle is centered over the backside of the motor. Seems like it might be more fatiguing to use this way, but would eliminate the chance of bumping into the cars finish with the handle vs. the PCs 90 degree handle.

It would be nice to try out both, but i can only purchase one!

    Re: PC vs G110

I have both machines (actually a PC 7336 - but the same as a 7424) and have used them in limited correction on my project car. Some things to keep in mind:

The PC was developed as a sander and later adapted to polishing. The G110 was developed from the design board to be an automotive polisher.

The G110 is advertised to have more correction power than a PC, although others might dispute this.

The G110 is sold with a loop and hook backing plate. I'm not sure if the PC has one included, or if you have to order it separately.

The PC is lighter than the G110 by a pound or two. This makes it more practical for getting into smaller areas with a 4" pad by holding the head of the device and/or if you have to use one hand.

The PC's right-angle handle is ergonomically optimal for polishing horizontal planes (hood, roof). The bale style handle of the G110 makes for more comfortable polishing of vertical surfaces (doors, bumper covers)

The PC can accommodate smaller pads like the LC 4" CCS pads. I'm not sure if the smaller 3.5" backing plate can be used with a G110, but I can't see a reason why not. I'll find out next week when my order arrives from PAC. I ordered a 3.5" BP and 4" pads for my PC, but I'll try them on the G110 too!

Is there an adjustable right-angle handle attachment?
By this I mean a handle that could adjust by folding upwards towards the user, I can't find the words to explain. Make sense?

PM Tim Lingor. In photos of one of his reviews, he's shown using a DeWalt DW849 rotary with an adjustable right-angle handle

And check out his in-depth *New* Meguiar's G-110 Review!!! and *Review* Tools of the Trade! Good stuff.

One more link for you since you're also considering a Porter Cable:

The review was by Steve Litscher and it was published in the now defunct Roadfly magazine 6 years ago, but still a good read.

I have a PC 7424 and a G110 (thanks again ClearyCoated for the craigslist ad from Leo )

I have not used the handle on either one yet, really have not had a need to. Some people probably do but I just hold it with one hand on top and the other in the back.

There's a new Porter & Cable due out in June 2009 some time. Model 7424XP. Do a internet search on it. Looks like they kicked up the specs to compete with the G110.

Call me crazy (it's OK, many people already do!) but I just blew up that photo of the adjustable handle and it's has a Meguiars logo on the pivot. I wonder if its's available from Meguiars Direct or ADS?

                        Re: PC vs G110

The G110 is my favorite tool in my inventory. I'd much rather use it then my Dewalt 849 because of the comfort. But majority of the time I have to put it aside and step up to the rotary.

I haven't had the pleasure of using the PC yet so I'm biased.
