  • Cleaner Wax

I have a bottle of cleaner wax that I want to use up. Questions are:

    1. Can this be used with a rotary & what pad should I use?

    2. Can this be used over # 80 as a final wax?

2006 chevy impala in very good condition with no swirls, or scratches to speak of. We will wash the car first with the grit guard. Will clay will meguiars clay kit. Then #80, & then the cleaner wax as an LSP.

    Thanks everyone, Norm

    Re: Cleaner Wax

If the paint is in very good condition like you say, then M80 is probably not needed. The cleaner wax will take off any grime the wash/clay did not take off.

If after you wash it and see there are some light swirls or scratches you may then need the M80

If you have a 2006 Chevy Impala in very good condition with no swirls or scratches, then you don't want to be applying M80 or any cleaner/wax to it with a rotary buffer. Stick to hand application or orbital buffers. Besides being a long and hard process, buffing out a clear coat with just M80 and a cleaner/wax with a rotary buffer is a recipe for swirls. It's more involved than that.

If you're talking about Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax in the maroon bottle, then "No" it is not formulated for or intended to be applied with a rotary buffer. We do have cleaner/waxes that can be applied with a rotary buffer, (used with heat), but A1216 Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax is not one of them.

Yes. Any of our waxes can be applied over M80 Speed Glaze.

        Re: Cleaner Wax

I do not believe that Cleaner Wax may be applied with a rotary. Given the heat and pressure of the rotary, CW will flash too quickly. As far as I know, the only Meguiar's wax that is formulated for rotary application is M21 Synthetic Sealant. Cleaner Wax, though, can be applied by a dual action polisher.

You can, if you like, apply Cleaner Wax to your car after having polished it with M80; but personally I would not. M80 will clean and polish your paint and leave behind a nice gloss, due to its TSOs (trade secret oils). After having spent all that time polishing your car, you now want to apply a pure wax, i.e., a wax that will not remove the TSOs. HiTech Yellow Wax (M26) would be ideal.

But if the paint is already in good condition, then you might want to follow 02zx9r's suggestion and skip the M80. Apply the Cleaner Wax immediately after claying. It will lightly clean the paint and leave behind a layer of glossy protection.

        Good luck and have fun!

        Cheers,
        Al

I have the porter cable Da as well with all the pads from lake country. What would be recommended for the cleaner wax as far as pads & what speed on the da. I am somewhat new to this detailing process & want to make sure I am doing things the correct way . Thanks again, Norm

That's a good question. I believe that the following instructions offered by Mike P. regarding ColorX would also apply to Cleaner Wax:

For neglected finishes use the product very wet, (plenty of product on the surface), and put some passion behind the pad when working by hand or use Meguiar's W-8006 Foam Polishing Pad on a DA Polisher on the 5.0 Speed Setting.

For finishes in good to excellent condition simply apply gently but thoroughly over the surface by hand or with either a foam polishing or finishing pad on the 3.0 to 4.0 Speed Setting on a DA Polisher.
If you go the first route (polishing pad at speed 5), remember not to buff dry (always make sure there is a wet film between the bad and the paint). Allow the wax to haze and then wipe off with a clean microfiber towel.

I have have never used the Lake Country pads, but according to their chart, it looks like you might want to use the LC black pad for the first option and the LC blue pad for the second. Hopefully those who know these pads can confirm or disconfirm this suggestion.

If you haven't done this before, you might want to do a test spot first, just to get the hang of it.

              Re: Cleaner Wax

I would probably try the white polishing pad to assist the cleaner wax to, well, clean.

I have the LC orange, white, black, blue pads and for me, I just use black and blue for putting on waxes or sealants. Im sure everyone is different though.

I use orange for cutting pad, then if any hazing or for the finish polish I use white.

If your looking for an AIO that can be used with the rotary then M06 Cleaner Wax would be ideal.
