  • New Jeep Wrangler X Hardtop

Just purchased a 2009 Jeep Wrangler hard top.

    A few questions.

    1. The hard top is some sort of metal. What is the best solution to keep it
    looking new.

    2. There is a lot of vinyl on the car. I use M Gold Class Trim Detailer on my
other cars. You advise will be appreciated.

    3. The car was manufactured in February 2009. What is the steps should I
use on the new paint. I usually follow the 3 step process on my other
cars. It this the best approach on the new Wrangler.

Thanks for any feedback. -- George,

What kind of finish does the top have? Does it look like flat or matte paint? Kind of dull looking?

Gold Class Trim Detailer is perfect for any rubber, vinyl and plastic.

As for maintenance, KISS - Keep It Simple Simon

Wash often enough to keep the Jeep clean.
After washing feel the paint, if the surface feels bumpy then you need to clay the paint. See this article,

How often do I need to clay my car's finish?

Next seal the paint by applying a wax or a paint sealant.

Is it a wax? Or a paint sealant?

Do this on a regular schedule and your Jeep will aways look like brand new. Also check out our new Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Detailer.

The hard top is probably fiberglass, I think my old one was. I sold it and got a new Bestop Supertop though. I would just keep it clean, it should stay looking good for a while. It is probably clear coated from the factory. If you put any dressing or anything on it will most likely fade or look uneven. Also the dressing will run onto the tub's paint and leave smears whenever it is washed or if it rains.

I have a 2008 Wrangler Unlimited. The top is a painted fiberglass, it's actually a flat black paint. You can treat it as you would most other paints. Obviously you don't want to use an aggressive polish on it to try to make it shiny or whatever, but an all-in-one followed by a sealant or wax will work fine and keep it protected.

I actually used Klasse All-in-One and Klasse Sealant Glaze because that's what I had on hand. The hard top looks fantastic and beads nicely. Later I will use ColorX and NXT 2.0, which would be similar products (and maybe even better). I now also own those after being so impressed with every Meguiar's product I've tried.

But again, it's important to know that it is not unpainted fiberglass, it has a matte or satin black painted surface, so obviously it can be waxed or sealed.
