I've only tried two of Meg's pure polishes, #7 and DCP. Of the two i can tell you that #7 seems to boost the gloss a bit more than DCP. On black anyways. And yes, all three can be applied by hand.

I have applied #7 with my PC. It works great for applying a THIN coating....whichis the key for it's easy removal. Have also applied DC2 with the PC...works great.

All three of the above are what Meguiar's calls pure polishes, this means they are non-abrasive. That is to say there are no ingredients in these product with the intended purpose to abrade the paint.

Besides the three you asked about there are also,

#3 Machine Glaze
M81 Hand Polish

While they are all in the same category, Pure Polishes, there are differences between them, some are subtle some are very apparent.

#5 is for humid climates and is formulated to dry and usually dry fairly fast. It turns white when it dries and can be kind of powdery.

#3 and #7 are close cousins with #3 being formulated to be used with a rotary buffer, (heat), and #7 recommended for use by hand, DA Polisher or Orbital Buffer. You can still use #3 by hand, DA Polisher or Orbital Buffer. Both #3 and #7 have been around since as far back as the 1920's and I've been told that the #7 formula is unchanged, don't know about #3 but chances are good this formula is unchanged since it's introduction.

M81 Hand Polish is a modern formula for clear coat paints, works much like M07 except it's a modern formula.

Deep Crystal Polish is the Consumer version of M81 or M07, that is it's a non-abrasive pure polish with an emphasis on easy of use the the average person.

All will do about the same thing, that is maximize gloss and clarity. Die Hard perfectionist will tend to go with #7 as it contains the richest content of Meguiar's trade secret polishing oils.

Note: Meguiar's always states that applying a pure polish is an optional step, that is you don't have to do it. Most people just want to wash and wax their car which is perfectly fine. Others want to baby their car and put the paint through a number of different polishing steps and do everything they can to create the perfect finish. These type of people will tend to apply a pure polish their car's paint.

If your black cars are newer or modern cars with basecoat/clearcoat paint jobs, then you should look at starting out with,

Ultimate Compound - Aggressive Compound for removing swirls, scratches and etchings
SwirlX - Light cleaner/polish for removing light swirls and shallow defects.

Most the time you would use the UC first and then follow that with the SwirlX and then apply your choice of wax or paint sealant.

The most important thing to do first is a Test Spot.

TEST SPOT

Doing A Test-Spot

Before going over the entire car, see if you can make just one small section look good, that is apply the product you're planning on using over the entire car to just one small section about a foot squared or so. Work it in and then wipe it off, then apply the polish, work it in but not as much as the compound because now you're not trying to remove paint, just spread the product out, then immediately wipe it off, then apply the wax and let it fully dry and then wipe it off.

Now inspect our results. Make sure you can make one small section look GREAT before going over then entire car. If you can't make one small section look GREAT you won't be able to make the entire car look GREAT.
