  • Help with meguiars products.

    Hi guys,
I'm new here, but I've been reading a lot of article on the Meguiar's products. There's so many that I'm not sure what to use... and if I need them (and what order to use them).

I drive a 2003 Lexus GS300 (white), and it looks decent. But there's a ton of swirl marks and such. I was wondering if you guys could help me choose the products and see if what I'm suggesting is fine..

I was thinking I'll wash the car first with.. well, like this

    1) I'll use the Gold Class Car Wash
    2) After drying, I'll use the SwirlX (or do I use the clay kit?). I'll use it by using the applicator pad and then wiping it off
    3) Then use the NXT Generation Wax 2 (do I apply it like.. rub it on, wait, then wipe it off?)

    And then...? that's it maybe?

Does that seem alright? I'm sorry I'm very new to car detailing. Thanks everyone!

    1. Wash - Gold Class, 2 buckets, quality sponges/towels, Grit Guards if possible.

    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay Kit

    3. Clean - You will want to do a test spot/area with SwilrX, and see if it is strong enough to do the job. You will want to get your area looking good before doing the whole car.

    4. Wax - Nxt 2.0 is a good choice. You would apply a thin coat, let it dry (maybe 15 min), then wipe it off.

    5. Wax - 2 thin coats are best.

    6. Maintain - Ultimate Quick Wax or Ultimate Quick Detailer are great to use after future washes.

And then? I dunno... glass, wheels, tires, wheelwells, interior, exhaust tips.....detail the lawn mower. We can always find something to do.

Follow Murr1525's advice. It is on point and should get you started until you get addict to Meg's like crack then you will be dropping cash for a G110. Trust me.....that's how I started. Oh, you will see and feel immediate results with the Clay Bar Kit. I got my at Wally World. Have fun and keep us posted.

Hey thanks for the replies you guys.

for the the quick detailer, is it better to use that only after you wash your car? or can you use it anytime?

        Thanks again!

SwirlX may be hand applied, but make sure to put some effort into the application (what people heree call passion behind the pad). Applying SwirlX like you would apply a wax will do nothing to remove paint defects. Use a foam applicator pad, not a terry cloth or microfiber cloth pad.

I would recommend using Supreme Shine microfiber towels to remove the wax.

For Quik detailers, it's best to apply to a clean surface after washing but prior to applications of cleaners, polishes, and waxes. This "preps" the surface one level further by removing trace elements of dust, pollen, and dried water spots that might have collected on your finish after you dried the car. Quik detailers can then be used as maintenance between washes if your finish is slightly dusty but not dirty.

OMG, Murr must be watching my backyard! I've done all I can to my new car and went looking for bad paint. The only thing I found was the lawn mower. I washed, clayed and polished a five year old Toro. Have I gone crazy?

Well, there are four situations I can think of:

                1. A bird poos on your car, or hard water drip from an overpass, etc. These you want to get the Quick Detailer on right away, lots of dabbing, not much rubbing.

                2. Getting dust on the car while working, such as having to leave it overnight between polishing and waxing, etc. You would want to wipe the car down with a QD to get back to a clean working surface.

                3. Some folks like to wipe their car down every day after they get home, to get the daily dirt off of it. This cuts back the amount of washing you have to do, but in a grimy environment, can risk swirls.

                4. After washing, products like UQD and UQW that I mentioned leave behind some protection, and really give back a fresh waxed shine in only a few minutes. So one or the other is nice to follow up a wash with.

A quick detailing product is generally meant to lubricate the surface so you can either slide clay around, or dab/wipe light dirt/dust safely off of the surface.

The regular QD in the maroon bottle is meant for claying. The UQD is not for claying. But either product can be used for dirt, dust, birds, etc.
