  • 5 years?

Hi folks,I know we're all buddies of Meguiar's here, but beware of online reveiws of top ten waxes, such as 'As seen on TV'.This immediatley means BEWARE!
I seen one recentley that directs you to a link claiming to have a wax that lasts 5,yes FIVE years

Quote'As used by NASA and the Navy'

    Anybody else seen that one!?

"What about the 10 ft x 6 ft plastic bag to seal your car in for 5 years!"

Even if there was such a product invented, it takes all the fun out of making something beautiful.

      Re: 5 years?

I do not doubt that coatings are being presently developed, and perhaps are already available, that provide one or more years of paint protection; and no doubt many will want to avail themselves of such a product.

However, will such a coating prevent contaminants of various kinds from bonding to the paint surface? Will such a coating prevent bird doo and tree sap from "burning" through the coating and damaging the paint finish? It seems to me that the concern for protective durability too often trumps commonsense. Washing a car does not wash away all contaminants. All of us who have clayed a car know this. Even if our protective lasts 6 months, 1 year, or longer, we will still want to remove embedded contaminants more frequently--at least we will if we want to keep our vehicles looking good. As Dom Colbeck has observed: "So there's no point leaving wax on a car for 6 months as it will have dirt embedded into it that a maintenance wash can't remove. It would be like leaving your undies on for as long as possible, just to avoid chucking them in the washing machine!"

          Yes, I agree with akimel.

It doesn't matter what sort of paint protection you get, that protection in itself will need to be treated and cleaned to show the true beauty below it.

"Clear Coats" were the ultimate protection for the base coat. It was a genius idea too. Cover the paint with a protecting clear layer. Originally they though this would last forever, but what happened? The clear coat itself would get scratched and there came a need to have _it_ then restored.

It's all so ridiculous, I'm thinking if I ever get my car repainted I'll get a single stage finish...
