Re: brand new car
Take a look at the paint in the sun. Are there any swirl marks that the dealer may have instilled on the paint? If there are, can you get some pictures up of them? If there aren't any, or if you choose to not fix them at this moment, here is what I would do.
1. Wash with Gold Class Wash
2. Smooth Surface Clay Kit
3. NXT 2.0 Wax
That is a basic set-up that should work fine if you are just working by hand.
and by the way...
Welcome to MOL
I once put swirls in my paint just to see what it looked like.
I don't always detail cars, but when I do, I prefer Meguiar's.
Remove swirls my friends.

Re: brand new car
As stated above, get some SwirlX and Ultimate Compound while your at it.
Ultimate is a strong product even when using by hand, but if your paint is hard, it will come in handy.
Do a test spot always regardless of what you do so you don't do the whole car and not like the results.
Wash
Clay
SwirlX if needed
ColorX is a great product
Wax (NXT 2.0 or whatever you like) 2 THIN coats spaced out, a popular process is wait 12 hours before adding second coat.

Re: brand new car
Do not discount the advice on this site! I recently bought 2 new Honda's and thought the finish looked good, so I washed and waxed them both. When I looked closely at - or really felt - the top of the Civic; It was bumpy.
Washed it a week later and used the "Smooth Surface Clay Kit", then a fresh coat of NXT 2. Wow! What a difference. That little skate really shines.
Just because it's new (from the dealer), doesn't mean it has a perfect finish. I wish I was forum savvy enough to link the threads I found here to that point.
My advice is this: Make the finish your own! Use all 5 steps from the start, then you know what has been done and what it needs.
Cheers!

Re: brand new car
I really dont think you will need ultimate compound or swirlx if its a brand new car
i would just stick with
wash
clay
and wax
if you really wanted to
you could just go
wash
clay
cleaner wax ( sample of it with the clay kit)
and wax

Swirls, rough paint, etc. Plus, our dealership is located right off the interstate, so that makes it doubly bad. And being subjected to "dealer washes" makes it that much worse. And we don't clay, polish, and wax every new car that comes through. It's usually just a basic wash and vac (plus wheels, windows, dress tires, etc.) and off it goes to a clueless customer. I never treat our cars the way the dealership cars are treated. Dealership managers do not tend to place a big emphasis on quality. Don't get me wrong, I like my job, I'm just saying that almost everything I learn here on MOL gets applied at home, not at work. Most of the guys I work with don't care too much, either. Of course, for $7 - $8 an hour what do you expect? I'm just saying, make sure you check that car closely!
