Hi

I'd suggest you go out and buy the entire (well mostly) line of Meguiar's consumer paint cleaners.

Go get SwirlX, ScratchX and Ultimate Compound.

Start with the SwirlX and work your way up. Apply more pressure with those products as needed to remove some swirls.

For something like this I would consider doing my best to hide the swirls. Just thinking removing swirls from an entire truck by hand by tomorrow might be too much.

Do you have a pure polish like #7? That seems to do a decent job covering swirls. Maybe someone else will have some great cover product ideas too.

Make sure to spend time on all the other details too, not just the paint.

Okay, just curious. I was wondering about that too, I'm not sure if UC needs to finish out.

I've heard after using UC it's LSP ready, so I'd like to know as well.

I have to agree. The rule of thum is least agressive to most. The #7 polish is not considered necessary. You should be able to just put your wax on after you use Swirlx. Putting on #7 is used as Mike Phillips says" because you love your car."

ok so....buy all of those, like, 4 products? the swirling is worse than it appears in the pics, especially on hood and tailgate

I think I'd have to agree with Scott on this one. I'd at least give #7 a try on a small spot and see what you think of the results. Then maybe look into getting a G110 and doing it right when you have the time.

I'd go out and buy a Makita 9227c or a PC and some pads. You can maybe find these locally at a paint and body supply shop or maybe a Northern Tool. This will be a bear to accomplish by hand.

Assuming you don't have access to some of the Meg's Pro polishes like #105/#205, then I'd hit it with Ultimate Compound/ScratchX/SwirlX. I'd use MF covered foam for the initial correction and finish with foam applicators. Since this is going to be a show prep, you might want to apply #7 to hide any remaining minor swirls. In the interest of time, I'd probably skip the wax until after the show and just rely on #7 to do it's magic.

If you expect that this kind of short notice show prep may occur again then I'd suggest making the investment now to be prepared for this in the future. A PC or rotary will typically cut the time needed to polish out the paint defects by a factor of ten.

i understand what your saying totally, however, we have no stores that sell a PC or anything locally.....ive looked! (wont touch a Rotary!)

It will be cloudy and nasty this weekend, so i dont need the finish perfect yet, since there wont be any sun to really show the defects anyway, i just want them knocked down until i can get a D/A

ok so im thinking...UC, ScratchX2.0 and SwirlX........start with buying those 3 and some diff. applicator pads and see where things go from there?

Swirls like these,

Are going to require Ultimate Compound for a truck this size. ScratchX 2.0 will work also but for a truck this size might as well get the 16 ounce bottle of UC. Pick up a half dozen to a dozen foam applicator pads so you have plenty on hand and of course plenty of good quality microfiber polishing cloths.

Wash and clay the paint first, then take the UC and rub out a small section about a foot or so square for about a minute and then wipe off the residue and move on to a new section. Overlap a little into the previous section and repeat this till you've gone all the way around the truck.

Follow this with SwirlX repeating the above except if you do a really good job of the above, that is rubbing the paint out with the UC to flatten and level out the surface, then you can tackle a larger section with the SwirlX and the SwirlX step will go pretty quick.

After the SwirlX, apply a thin coating of NXT Tech Wax, let it dry for about 30 minutes and then wipe-off the dried wax residue.

Remove any wax out of the cracks and the paint should be about 80% to 90% of what you could achieve with a DA Polisher. The key doing a GREAT job with the Ultimate Compound. It's the cleaning step where the below surface defects are removed and and thus it is the cleaning step that is the most important step that will determine your end results.

If you do all of this before the car show, as in today, then tomorrow after you arrive and set-up the truck, wipe all the paint down gently using our new Ultimate Quik Wax. Use a really nice microfiber for this and focus on the task at hand, that is pay attention and do a good job and the paint should look great for the show.

Excellent post Mike, as always. One thing i want to add is to make sure the paints clean before using UQW, or any spray wax. Quik Detailer would work great to clean it up and can be easily obtained. LT is my go-to.
