I'm just getting started with detailing and would like to know a little more about claying. I've watched videos, and I've read many posts/articles. Is it really that simple? Anything I should be aware of before I attempt to use the Smooth Surface Clay Kit?

Re: Is claying as simple as it looks?
It is so simple and rewarding I did 4 cars in 6 days. I did an '01 Tacoma, '02 Silverado, '05 Maxima, and finally '78 Aspen. All of them looked 10x better and it got me addicted to Meg's. So addicted I have purchased a DA and all the stuff to go with it, about $400 worth in 2 weeks. Good luck and have fun. Oh, first rule about CLAY CLUB........talk about CLAY CLUB!!!!RG Curtis

Yes it is. You will wonder why you never did it before now.

It is really easy. I was skeptical at first. But after I started claying. I was amazed at how such a simple process improved the finish of the paint.
Don't forget you can also clay your exterior glass. This helps tremendously.quality creates its own demand

Claying is *very* easy, but you do need to take some care. Save the "dirty" areas (generally speaking, the bottom of the vehicle, such as the rockers, and all of the horizontal surfaces) for last, and cut the clay bar in to smaller pieces. Watch out for larger particles that get embedded in the clay, as they can/will induce marring. Oh, and you can't use too much lube.-Will-

Yeah, lots of lube (buy an extra QD bottle for your first time), and cut the bar into 2 pieces, because you dont want to drop it. I worked over a piece of cardboard at first, to make sure I didnt drop it and waste it.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

It's very easy and actually pretty fun. Remember to spray the claybar itself very often, knead fairly often, and spray the paint often too. My biggest mistake the first time around was not lubing the claybar itself (if memory serves, the instructions didn't tell me to!) which led to some touch clay streaks in the paint.
I'm a believer now, though.

Yes claying is good as everyone else mentioned.
I remember the first time I clayed my car and it really took a while because there was a lot of stuff on there. Just remember that it will get easier and you don't have to do it all the time.
I clay about once a year, but I do park in a garage every night and make sure I don't park under trees and such. Good Luck!!!!"Difficult takes a day, impossible takes a week." Jay-Z

Re: Is claying as simple as it looks?
Thanks everyone! I just needed a little more reassurance that I wouldn't do any damage since I've never done anything like this before. My husband didn't even know what claying was when I mentioned it to him. When we went car shopping last year, it was I that wanted a black car. My husband had no problem with it as long as I would keep it clean...since black shows dirt so easily. Usually our cars would get detailed by one of the local shops, but I wasn't impressed enough with their work to bring my new car to them. It also saves a few bucks if I do it myself. I'll probably clay our Explorer first since it is in need of a wash anyway. It sits outside while our MKZ sits in the garage. I can't wait to see how the Explorer looks after a good wash/detail.
Thanks Again,
Tabby
