  • Any suggestions on rock chips

Our black camry has several rock chips on the hood and one on the roof. Any suggestions on how to do em right.
I realize that paint will have to come into play at some point. but how do you smooth out the new finish to match the old. HELP.

If I was doing it I would get a small bottle of paint and clear online that matches your factory color. Then I would try I some hidden places (trunk, door jamb, etc) before trying the real deal. Maybe some painters will chime in

Rock chips is a very hard thing to get looking like it was never there. Honestly unless you have practiced on something not very important I wouldnt try it on your own hood. That being said I would do the following:

-get a tin of some touch-up paint to match your car

-then tape off the paint surrounding the chip

-take either a toothpick or a fine tip paint brush and dab the paint into the chip (this could take more than one application, you want to build up the touch up paint higher than rest of the paint)

-after giving it time to dry wet sand it down even with the rest of the car

-polish out the sanding marks and protect it.

Like I said this is a hard process to make it appear there was nothing there so practice would be very good. Hope that helps
